Revisiting Ken Dayley's Astonishing Recovery from Tommy John Surgery

The doctors call it a UCLR (ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction). Baseball players and fans call it Tommy John surgery—named after the pitcher who was the first to have the surgery in 1974. Fans of the Cardinals call it the surgery that saved former left-handed reliever Ken Dayley's career, and also gave him spotlight from the way he recovered from it. Dayley recovered in an astonishing seven months where most pitchers take up to 14 months recovering from the operation.

Brandon Phillips Cardinals: Why Reds vs. Cardinals Brawl Is Good For MLB

Brandon Phillips is a great man and just made baseball really interesting. Unless you're a St. Louis Cardinals fan, or don't like the Reds, you should agree with that statement.

Phillips recently had some very colorful things to say about St. Louis that a ballplayer usually would say about their rival, comparing them to little female dogs.

Blue Jays Banter: Lyle Overbay's Successor Is...J.P. Arencibia?

When Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos traded away Toronto's anointed next great First Baseman Brett Wallace, even the most hardcore of fans were perplexed.

We tried to console ourselves with speculation regarding Adam Lind taking over 1B full time or waxing poetic on Anthony Gose's huge upside (the guy we got in exchange for Wallace).

A Season to Forget: Which MLB Franchise Has Disappointed The Most?

This season has not been a good season for many high-payroll MLB Franchises.

The Red Sox have endured countless injuries, putting their backs against the wall for the Wild Card chase.

The Tigers and Dodgers both see struggles to claw back into contention.

Mike Pelfrey Outduels Ubaldo Jimenez, Mets Shut Out Rockies in Opener

What a relief for Mets fans tonight. After one of Mike Pelfrey's roughest career stretches, he bounced back with a gem to get the Mets off on the right foot.

Opening up a six-game home stand starting with the Colorado Rockies, Pelfrey was on the mound facing 17-game winner Ubaldo Jimenez.

The feeling was that it would be a lopsided Rockies victory. It turned out to be a classic pitchers' duel between two extremely talented pitchers.

Colorado Rockies Road Woes Continue

It seemed as if Drew Goodman was intentionally taunting Rockies fans all night long.

The FSN play-by-play announcer seemingly came up with a new stat that showed how horrible Mets starter Mike Pelfrey has been since June.

On Tuesday night in New York, Ubaldo Jimenez had his best stuff. The only problem is that if he wanted to pick up his franchise-record 18th win, he was going to need to be perfect.

Meet the Mets: An Interview with Mets Top Prospect Jeurys Familia

Jeurys Familia has been considered by some to be among the Mets top ten prospects.

Familia spent his first year in Rookie Ball and was very impressive. In 2008, he went 2-2 with a 2.79 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 6.6 K/9 rate.

This was enough to earn him a spot in Single-A for the '09 season. At age 19, Familia impressed again. He went 10-6 with a 2.69 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and a 7.3 K/9 rate.

MLB Rumors: Los Angeles Dodgers Have Growing Interest In Jose Guillen

As all the teams approach the middle of August, there are still teams looking for that final push for the playoffs. The Dodgers are one of these teams; they were buyers at the trade deadline with the acquisition of Ted Lilly and they are five-and-a-half games out of first place.
