Fantasy Baseball's Post All-Star Break Positional Ranks: Catchers

What do Craig Biggio, Pablo Sandoval, and Neil Walker have in common? All three saw a significant amount of time behind the plate in the minors but found new positions in the big leagues.

The trend of moving young catchers to other positions because of their defensive deficiencies behind the plate or to increase longevity has left fantasy owners with a diluted pool of catchers from which to choose.

Josh Thole Deserved to Stay, and Deserves to Play

PHOENIX—It wasn't clear what the future of Josh Thole was for this season. The Mets have been carrying three catchers, and many people were wondering how long the Mets can afford to do that.
When the season began, Josh Thole didn't make the team. It was the two veterans who got signed to catch.
Thole got called up earlier in the season when Henry Blanco couldn't be with the team. He never got a single at-bat.

Toronto Blue Jays Enter MLB Trade Deadline As Loaded Sellers

The city of Toronto is in a state of flux right now with their beloved sports teams.

The Maple Leafs appear to be trying to revive a team that's been in hockey's basement ever since the lockout of 2004. The Raptors have lost multiple superstars in recent memory (Vince Carter, Tracy McGrady, Antonio Davis) and now just lost another in Chris Bosh to the Miami Heat.

Both of these teams are re-tooling in hopes of a better future.

As we move on to the Blue Jays, they are in that same state of flux as every other major sports franchise in "Hog-Town."

New York Mets Lose, Oliver Perez Returns, Josh Thole Stays

POST GAME: D-BACKS 3, METS 2

The Mets lost another one in the desert tonight, 3-2, to the Diamondbacks. For the 11th straight game, the Mets failed to score more than four runs, and lost With Dickey starting for the fifth straight time.

Dickey was solid through seven, allowing three runs on seven hits. The Mets couldn't get to D-Backs rookie Barry Enright.

They got a leadoff home run from Angel Pagan in the ninth, cutting the deficit to 3-2, but went down in order after that.

Why Don't the New York Mets Just Release Oliver Perez?

Apparently, Oliver Perez is going to be activated off of the Disabled List for the New York Mets tomorrow, after making five poor rehab appearances.

Given Perez's big league service, Perez has to approve a designation to the minor leagues. For whatever reason, Perez thinks he will be helping himself and the Mets by staying with the club, and the Mets front office has no option but to give him a spot on the 25 man roster, given that he has spent the maximum time allowed rehabbing an injury in the minors.

Hughes Gets Batted Around, Yankees Pitching Staff Is In Disarray

The Yankees have been able to count on two things all year: having Mariano Rivera for the ninth inning, and quality starting pitching.

Well, it would appear that they are without the quality starting pitching now, so the bridge to Mariano just got a whole lot longer.

Phil Hughes picked up right where he left off at the All Star Game, in his first start of the second half Hughes allowed six earned runs on nine hits and three walks, over five innings.

Cliff Lee: Wasted by The Phillies

It could have happened. The dream pitching staff could have come true. There was nothing in the way. Besides one simple, but huge, mistake.

Philadelphia Phillies General Manager Rueben Amaro Jr. did not stop to think as long as he should have when he dealt Cliff Lee to the Mariners last December. His idea made sense.

See-Ya!: Why the Yankees Will Not Win Another World Series This Decade

An event signalling the decline of the Bombers occured in the Bronx last week.

No, it wasn't the death of Mr. Steinbrenner, though some might say that may play into it.

Instead of the rudder being taken from the ship, a small but mighty hole burst the Yankees hull:

They didn't get their man.

Ike Davis vs. Buster Posey: Who Will Go On to Have a Better Career?

2010 has become the year of the rookie in major league baseball. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to recall a single year that provided such a wealth of freshman talent.

The Mets Ike Davis and the Giants Buster Posey are two of the most promising talents in the 2010 rookie class.
