Edinson Volquez: Back with the Cincinnati Reds

The Cincinnati Reds announced today that Edinson Volquez would be returning to the team after more than a year’s absence.

This is great news for the Reds who could use a pitching boost in the middle of the season.

Carlos Beltran Returns To New York Mets: Best, Worst, Likely Scenarios

Carlos Beltran is off the disabled list, and he'll be back in the heart of the New York Mets lineup Thursday night in San Francisco.

After 14 rehab games for the Single-A St. Lucie Mets, the five-time All-Star and three-time Gold Glover will provide a big boost to Jerry Manuel's team, both in the lineup and in hopefully in the field.

Here are three different scenarios for his return...the best, worse, and most likely scenarios.

Toronto Blue Jays Playing Moneyball Alex Anthopoulos Style

Yunel Escobar is the main player Alex Anthopoulos acquired when he dealt Alex Gonzalez away. Anthopoulos had stated that his plan to build (not rebuild) the Toronto Blue Jays is to get young, controllable players—players whose salary we can control for several years.

Yankees' Jon Weber Retires After Never Playing In The Majors

More sad news arrives for the New York Yankees as fans will never be able to see Jon Weber don the Yankee pinstripes at Yankee Stadium. This comes after the sad news of the passing of George Steinbrenner and Bob Sheppard.

Weber was at the center of the Yankee Spring Training story-lines as fans were hoping this man's journey have a happy ending. He was arrived to the Yankees camp at 5'10", 190 pounds, and with hopes as high as Mount Everest. He donned the No. 79 for the Yankees, but his odds of even making the team on Opening Day were higher than that.

What Hopes Do the Arizona Diamondbacks Have in the Second Half?

As we all know, the first half of the baseball season has been nothing short of a disaster for those of us who claim the Diamondbacks as our team.

As painful and embarrassing it is to admit it now, I am one of those poor fans.

Even with the shame and disappointment of the season, this second half still holds value for me as a fan.

Now, since the team is completely out of contention, the priorities change.

There is no way that they can win the division or even get close, but there are some things I wish to see in the final 73 games of the season.

Three Steps To a Successful Second Half for the Minnesota Twins

After starting the season with most everything clicking, the Minnesota Twins have experienced a rough couple of months. Injuries, rotten luck, and even simple incompetence has contributed to the Twins' drop to third in the AL Central, and the future doesn't look any better.

Of course, as does every blogger, I know exactly how to fix the team. Here are three steps Minnesota needs to take in order to have a successful second half of the season.

San Francisco Giants Sign Dontrelle Willis

It was just announced the Giants signed lefty Dontrelle Willis to play for their AAA team, the Fresno Grizzlies.  While the adult in me thinks Dontrelle’s arm is shot, the kid in me loves this move.

I’ve always been a big fan of Dontrelle.  He’s from Oakland, just across the Bay from San Fran, and I just liked everything about him as a player.

Report Card: Performance Grades of the Seattle Mariners' Offseason Pickups

Although cloudless days continue to appear in Seattle's summer sky, locals are still advised to carry umbrellas... because Jack Zduriencik is quickly plummeting downwards.

Just months after being hailed as a hero in the Emerald City for his roster overhaul filled with top-flight players, the Mariners general manager is now being scrutinized for not meeting his team's needs in the off-season.

John Mozeliak's 3-Year Extension Was The Right Move For St. Louis Cardinals

For Major League Baseball's General Managers, the trading deadline can be one of the most stressful times of the year. St. Louis's John Mozeliak can breathe a little easier, knowing that he'll have a job for the next three years.

The Cardinals should breathe easier too, knowing that they've retained one of the key pieces in keeping Albert Pujols in a Cardinals uniform, and one of the top front office brains in all of baseball.

What Can We Expect From Carlos Beltran?

The much anticipated return of Carlos Beltran is only a day away. The Mets, their fans, and their manager are hoping that he can contribute immediately.

Is that realistic?

Normally, I don't have a problem giving a definitive opinion to a Mets related question. This one isn't that easy though.
