New York Mets Go for Mini Sweep of Atlanta Braves with Johan on the Hill

It's always nice to win a game when your team's entire front office comes to visit. You know that when it happens, you're probably going bad. With all the pressure in the world squarely on Jerry Manuel's shoulders, the Mets went out and got a well-earned victory last night.

Now they will try and build upon that win with their ace Johan Santana on the mound in a—in my opinion—must-win game.

Why is a must-win game you ask on the 18th of May?

New York Yankees Promote J.R. Murphy to Low A Charleston

The Yankees second round draft pick last season, J.R. Murphy left extended spring training and played tonight for the Low A Charleston RiverDogs.

The RiverDogs were playing in Rome, GA against the Low A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.

The 6'0", 190 lb Murphy was the designated hitter and ended up 1-3, with a double, RBI and struck out twice.

While drafted as a catcher, and currently part of the long pecking order of highly-rated Yankees catching prospects, I feel Murphy's greatest value to the team is likely as a rightfielder.

Lyle Overbay Straining for the Toronto Blue Jays

Lyle Overbay is pressing.

If you feel inclined to add a pithy, "Yeah, DE-pressing" to the above, feel free and may the gods of '90's sitcoms be with you. But the fact remains: Overbay is looking for love in all the wrong places.

Take a look at what's going on with the Jays and it might explain his troubles.

Alex Gonzalez and John Buck, picked up for their defense and handling of pitchers respectively, have torn the cover off the ball. No one could have predicted this without the aid of witchcraft.

Rockies-Cubs: Colorado Can't Turn Corner in Loss to Chicago

Good teams find ways to win.

Yankees Bore This Baseball Fan

Unless there is a catastrophe, the Yankees are going to buy another World Series this season. There's no denying it.

That team is stacked with great hitting and great pitching. Their young players mesh with the veterans when it comes to creating a cohesive unit.

There's no team in baseball that can challenge them. People can talk about the Giants with their starting five, but the Yankees have a good starting rotation of their own.

Red Sox-Yankees: Thames Walks-Off Red Sox After Yankees Blow Early Lead

Trailing 9-7 in the bottom of the ninth, Alex Rodriguez tied the game with a two-run home run off Jonathan Papelbon. Three batters later, Marcus Thames’ two-out, two-run walk off homer lifted New York to an 11-9 win over Boston Monday night at Yankee Stadium.

MLB Fantasy Baseball: The Hot 8 (Waivers)—Week Seven

It’s all about PITCHING this week. After six weeks of regular season baseball, it is time to start reading into some of the trends and stats that we are seeing develop.

There are some real good starting pitchers who are being used for nothing more than pitch and ditch purposes, and it is time for wise fantasy baseball owners to pick these guys up and keep them while ditching other starters who just aren’t getting it done this season.

NBA: The Games Off the Field

Only 409 more days.

That’s right, in fewer than 59 weeks, the 2010 NBA free agency period opens.

And it will open sans LeBron James. No Dwyane Wade, either. Chris Bosh will be inked to a team already. Not even Joe Johnson will be available. All of those guys get their big deals this summer.

But I am still totally psyched for next year’s free agent class for one reason:

The possibility of Kevin Durant coming to Milwaukee.

(Quick pause for me to put my crack pipe down.)

Travis Snider Out, Edwin Encarnacion In For The Toronto Blue Jays

Just as Travis Snider was on his way to an outstanding month of May at the plate he's now on his way down to Dunedin, Florida for an MRI and rehab. Snider injured his wrist in Friday night's game, a game in which he went deep for the second consecutive night. It's not clear yet how long he will be out and wrist injuries can be a tricky injury to recover from.

New York Mets-Atlanta Braves: Mike Pelfrey Delivers Ends Mets' Losing Streak

The Mets won in front of Jeff Wilpon behind a really strong start by Mike Pelfrey . He went 7.2 IP and gave up only 2 ER on 7 hits and 2 walks. His velocity was great, at times throwing his fastball in the high 90s.
