The signing of Fred Lewis has been a heist of epic proprotions; it's actually tightened security at Luftansa airport. Even more unfortunate: They haven't made an air freshener potent enough to purge the scent of swindle lingering in the San Francisco Giants' front office.

For the Toronto Blue Jays, having a true leadoff hitter in their ranks once more has been reaffirming. It hearkens back to a simpler time, when OBP was maybe just an acronym for something that was possibly offensive.

Last month, Dallas Braden was the subject of headlines after calling out Alex Rodriguez for taking a shortcut, and that path led right through the pitching mound. Apparently, the feud is still going. 

On the May 8 episode of "Pardon the Interruption," Braden continued to bait A-Rod, because he felt slighted after the New York Yankees slugger tried to play down comments he made about the Oakland A's starter having not done much as a major leaguer yet. 

The Dallas Braden/Alex Rodriguez feud is still going strong, and while part of me feels that Braden ought to let it go and move (which he appears to be doing tonight with eight perfect innings against the Rays so far), all of me feels that Alex Rodriguez is one of the bigger punks in the game.

After winning back-to-back division titles, the Cubs now appear on the brink of having two straight years of October golf. The Cubs' core players are quickly passing their prime as the ballclub becomes increasingly more inconsistent.

Now it's still early in the season and a Cubs run to a Wild Card spot isn't mathematically impossible, but even if the Cubs make the playoffs, it is very, very clear they cannot compete with the Cardinals and Phillies in the National League or the Yankees, Devil Rays, or Twins in the AL.

The Red Sox are team still struggling to find their identity as they near the midpoint of May.

Oakland Athletics pitcher lefty Dallas Braden threw the 17th ever perfect game (in the Modern Era) today against the Tampa Bay Rays, and the first one on Mother's Day.

It was the 2nd time the Rays had been thrown against a perfect game in less than a year. 

Braden, 26, was recently known for his comments on Yankee Alex Rodriguez stepping over the mound to get over to 1st base during a game.

Not anymore, as this game is added to history forever. 

For the third week in a row I have the Tampa Bay Rays at the top spot. They have the best pitching staff in the majors. The best offense was a toss up between them and the Yankees. I pushed up the Yankees a spot because they are the hottest team in the majors right now, winning nine of their last 10 games. No other team can say that they’ve won at least eight of their last 10 other than the “Bronx Bombers.”

Red Sox ace Josh Beckett got rocked—again—Friday night, allowing nine earned runs in 5 1/3 innings to the Yankees, marking the third time he’s given up seven earned runs or more in a start this season.

Through seven starts (41 innings) in 2010, Beckett is 1-1 with a despicable 7.46 ERA and 1.66 WHIP.

Coming into Saturday night's contest between Milwaukee and Arizona, outfielder Jody Gerut had only four hits on the year.

Gerut matched his season with four hits in the Brewers' 17-3 rout of Arizona.

And they weren't just any four hits.

With a single, double, triple, and home run, Gerut became just the sixth player in Brewers history to hit for the cycle.

The outfielder, who had made only four starts all season, definitely earned himself a spot in Sunday's game.

"It's going to be tough not to put him in the lineup," said Brewers manager, Ken Macha.

Most teams would love the opportunity to choose between two of the best starting pitchers in the major leagues, but for the Phillies this question became an agonizing decision. Who did they want? The dominating Roy Halladay, or their very own post-season hero Cliff Lee? In the end, amid much controversy back in Philadelphia, the Phillies decided to acquire Roy Halladay and send Cliff Lee to Seattle.
