With one at bat, one beautiful swing delivering a crushing blow to Red Sox Nation, Aaron Boone permanently cemented himself into the hearts of all Yankees fans.
It may seem unfathomable that a man with no prior connection to the most storied franchise in sports could in one moment place himself alongside the memories of countless baseball legends.
However, Boone did just that, after putting up less than mediocre numbers for half a season at third base for the Yanks.
It will forever be known that one of the most memorable playoff series ever came down to a floating knuckleball, off the fingers of Tim Wakefield, being "Yahtzeed" (a little Bawston lingo for any Sawx fans who forgot the 2003 ALCS) off the wood of a MLB journeyman.
Since that moment, Boone gave a little back to Boston, tearing his ACL and bringing A-Roid to New York, beginning the sequence of Red Sox supremacy.
Unfortunately, that ACL ended all hope of Boone's Yankee return and I challenge anyone to recite Boone's career path since that fateful day of pick—up basketball.
Today, it was announced that Aaron "*&^%$^&" Boone will undergo open heart surgery to repair an Aortic Valve.
While doctors have said that he can play after his rehab, it seems that his baseball career may be over due to his personal choice rather than health.
As a diehard Yanks fan, Boone provided one of my all-time favorite sports moments and has also proved himself as a first class individual.
I wish Aaron god speed in his surgery and will pray for a speedy and full recovery.
You will forever be in the hearts of Yankees Fans for your heroics in 2003, but now you will also be in our hearts until you are able to once again step on a baseball field or play a game of pick—up basketball.
