The Jack Hannahan Experiment Has Failed, Release Him Immediately

Jack Hannahan is not an all around major league baseball player.  He does one thing well and that is defense.  Unforunately for Hannahan, he plays a position that demands that you not only to be a solid defender, but a good hitter as well.

Hannahan has proven time and time again that he can't hit major league pitching. So, why is he even on the Oakland A's roster?  Injuries have played a part of it, but there's a solution to the problem.

Put Bobby Crosby in at third base everyday, so he isn't concentrating on what position he has to play defensively.

Yes, Crosby entered the game batting .214, but that's because he's been playing three different positions this year.

Allow Crosby to play one and only one position so he can also concentrate on getting his batting average up. Crosby is at least going to hit over .200 unlike Hannahan.

Hannahan had an opportunity to show the A's why they should keep him on the major league roster in the top of the second inning with two outs and Matt Garza, the Tampa Bay Rays pitcher, struggling with his location.

So, What happens to Hannahan? Strikes out and the A's of course aren't able to score. Yet, what do the Rays in the bottom half of the inning do? The Rays score two runs.

Hannahan is pathetic.  In fact, instead of just sending him back down to Sacramento, the A's should just release him.

No other team would want Hannahan unless it was for a defensive replacement in the ninth inning, and not many teams need a defensive replacement at third base in the ninth inning or extra innings because the majority of third basemen are also good defenders.

Release Hannahan and let him stew in his own self pity. The only thing Hannahan is doing is embarrassing himself by trying to play at the major league level and it happens every time he comes to the plate.

Either he's going to hit an easy grounder at an infielder or he'll strike out. After Hannahan's last plate appearance he's now batting .125 for the season and in Sacramento he wasn't that much better hitting .157.

If the A's need a first basemen so badly and has experience there call up Daric Barton and put Crosby at third base. The A's do not need Hannahan and he should be released.
