Background
The son of Tennessee head coach Dave Serrano—who has also led both UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton to appearances in the College World Series over the last decade—Kyle’s commitment to play for his father next season led to concerns about his signability headed into the spring.
However, the 6’1”, 195-pound right-hander’s across-the-board improvements this season have helped push him into the upper echelon of 2013 draft prospects, as it now appears as though he’ll be selected early enough in the first round to consider foregoing his commitment.

Compact, repeatable mechanics; undersized right-hander profile at 6’1”, 195 pounds; room to fill out; manages to create solid plane with each pitch; exhibits fluidity and balance throughout delivery; has showcased better endurance this spring; very polished for a prep pitcher; smooth but fast arm; tons of pure arm strength.

Velocity has improved over last year; consistently 90-94 mph; has reached 95 mph this spring; has done a better job holding plus velocity deep into starts; pounds the strike zone; feel for locating pitch to both sides of the plate; isn’t afraid to challenge hitters.

One of the top breaking balls in the 2013 draft class; hammer; true top-to-bottom knee-buckler in the low-80s; tight spin thrown with consistent arm speed; swing-and-miss offering and out-pitch at the next level; deep shape; late, downer bite.
