Over the first 12 games of the season the New York Mets compiled a record of 6-6. That means that the Mets are .500, that's not bad for most teams.
For the Mets it apparently is. I don't know the reasoning for that, maybe because they are favored to win their division.
Whatever it is, "Don't Worry 'Bout It". I say that because all the Mets have to do to get in good shape is at least take two out of three from the St. Louis Cardinals in their upcoming series.
The Mets are totally capable of that, and I won't be surprised to see them sweep a talented Cardinals team. All though I am not worried about the Mets start overall, I am a little bit worried about some of their players.
Some of the Mets' players can't impress me anymore. Some of those guys are; Carlos Delgado, Luis Castillo, Johan Santana, the whole bullpen, and many more.
All those players are doing great to start off their season. Delgado's taking the form of his second half self at the start of the season, that's always good.
Despite some Mets players impressing, there are some that are not doing much impressing. David Wright and Jose Reyes lead that group along with the middle of the Mets' starting rotation.
I still think that they are great players, but they have to step their game up a tad bit. Wright, I believe hit safely in all 12 games to start the season, but he has something like 15 strikeouts, not too good. Reyes looks like he's starting to heat up after his sluggish start.
The middle of the Mets' starting rotation is what's concerning me the most. Oliver Perez, John Maine, and Mike Pelfrey are all off to rough starts.
Maine the least out of all them, he's stringed together some OK starts. I'm looking for Johnny boy to step his game up by the end of this month. After the Mets' fans heard that Mike Pelfrey had tendonitis they were actually relieved.
Relieved because that could of been what was behind Big Pelf's rough start. Hopefully Pelfrey would come back soon and show us what he can really do when he's healthy. Out of the three struggling Oliver Perez was the one most expected to struggle.
Ollie as many of you know is referred sometimes as Mr. Inconsistent. The name explains it.
That's what Ollie has been over his short career. Look for Ollie to string together some nice starts and have a tough one here and there.
Ollie's got the nastiest touch out of all the Mets' pitchers including, Johan Santana. If Ollie can find a way to become consistent he should be due for a great year.
Now that we examined all the things that have been worrying fans it looks like they are all fixable and will be fixed by the end of the month. Every player goes into slumps and some players around the league have had the unluckiness to get into a slump at the start of the year.
I think that that explains David Wright's start. It is good, but not his usual Amazin'.
