The Mets have an incredible lineup full of speedsters and sluggers, and in two cases, namely David Wright and Carlos Beltran, they have both speed and power as evidenced by both of them being members of the 30/30 club.
Jerry Manuel does little to change the lineup on any given day other than the pitcher and the catcher in the event of a day game following a night game.
Even though the Mets have been on a win streak, there is still la lot of room for improvement when it comes down to getting runners home with two outs:
Jose Reyes is the main spark to this lineup, when he gets on things happen. Reyes has been in a bit of slump the last week or so, but appears to be getting on track as evidenced by his home run last night.
Offense grade: C
Carlos Beltran has been on a tear these past two weeks and he has been combining his speed and power well.
Offense grade: A+
David Wright has been struggling with RISP and strikeouts but when he does get on base, you can bet on him taking off. He has been hitting a lot of doubles and singles as well as taking walks.
Offense Grade: B
Carlos Delgado is the slugger who is riddled with a bad hip so he was never a basepath threat but does take advantage of fielder's mistakes, as evidenced by his scoring on a error by the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.
Offense Grade: B
Luis Castillo has been injured but has been hitting better and did have a stolen base last night so he appears to be on the right track to show that his work to lose weight this past winter will benefit the team.
Offense Grade: B
Daniel Murphy has been an incredible hitter who does make contact and will hit for power, even though his defense needs work, his value to the offense cannot be diminished.
Offense Grade: A
Ryan Church is rebounding from a disastrous season last year that saw him suffer two concussions. He is in a slump right now, but when he starts hitting like we know he can, he will contribute greatly to the Mets offense.
Offense Grade: C
The catching has been split between Ramon Castro and Omir Santos since the back and leg injury to Brian Schneider has kept him out of commission. Both Castro and Santos have contributed to the offense in numerous ways.
