The two worst Major League Baseball teams in 2008 pulled off a trade that no one cares about today. The Washington Nationals traded perennial bust Ryan Langerhans to the Seattle Mariners for unproductive infielder Mike Morse.
However, even though these two players can't cut it in the big leagues, these guys tear it up down in AAA, with Morse hitting a solid .312 with 10 home runs, and 52 RBI, while Langerhans is hitting .278, with nine home runs, and 40 RBI.
Why would the Mariners trade when of their best hitters in their minor league system for a slightly worse hitter?
The answer: Who cares?
Neither Morse nor Langerhans has ever produced well in the majors, despite always posting strong numbers in the minors. The Nats and Mariners are just exchanging one bust for another.
Maybe, just maybe, Langerhans and Morse could have Major League careers as utility guys. But if they tried and failed as backups with the Nats and Mariners, where else could they be backups?
Nowhere, I guess.
But you never know. The Cubs could have Langerhans as their backup outfielder next year. Nobody saw Nick Green of the Boston Red Sox becoming the Sox's starting shortstop, so you never know where Morse and Langerhans could be next year.
