If you're a Mets fan right now, you might be just a little nervous. If you look at the current situation, you see a shaky 3-7 team that isn't hitting, pitching, or winning like the way you thought they might. You see a team that is on the brink of spiraling into another season that could be as bad or worse than what you saw last year.
Well, don't panic just yet. There will be better days to come.
Yes, now the wins and losses count, and the total right now shows that the Mets are a losing team, but with that being said, there are a lot of positives coming out of those losses.
One of those positives is their starting pitching. Of course Johan Santana is Johan Santana, and the rest are the rest. But a lot of Mets fans thought the rest might be a disaster, but so far it hasn't. Just yesterday Oliver Perez went a solid 6 1/3 innings, and the entire St. Louis offense came off with one grand slam. Two out of the Mets' three wins have come from Mike Pelfrey, who is recently coming off of a shutout in Colorado. Yes, John Maine and Jon Niese have been a little off, but things can change quickly.
As far as the bullpen goes, there have been some unexpected bright spots. Ryota Igarashi, Jenrry Mejia, and K-Rod have all been able to get guys out.
The hitting is where the Mets have lost their games. However, hitting-wise some of the core guys have been able to come through. Jeff Francoeur is batting nearly .500 so far, and guys like Rod Barajas and David Wright have been able to bring some much needed power to the Mets lineup. Once Jose Reyes gets back into the swing of things and Carlos Beltran returns, things will be okay. For now guys, like Gary Matthews Jr., Angel Pagan, Mike Jacobs, Fernando Tatis, and Luis Castillo need to step up, and if they can, things will surely be looking up.
So don't count out the Amazin's quite yet; it's early, and so much baseball has yet to be played.
