What Was the Best Toronto Blue Jays Game This Year?

After an incredible start to the season, I for sure thought baseball was back in Toronto. Fans were excited, tickets were selling, and most importantly the Jays were winning.

Now, at 34-31 and tied with Tampa Bay for third place in the dreaded AL East, the Jays get a much needed day off.

With the day off however, we don't get to enjoy the Jays tonight. And after so many great games so far this season, I started to wonder about which game was the most memorable game so far.

The Candidates:

April 6 vs. Detroit—A win on opening day, how sweeter can it get? The Jays not only won, they destroyed Verlander and the rest of the AL Central leading Tigers, 12-5. Adam Lind got a career best six RBI`s, and Doc Hallady won his first game of the season. To add more suspense, the game was briefly called in the eight inning after fans started to throw paper airplanes and empty beer cups on the field.

April 13 at Minnesota—Snider hit two home runs, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the eighth inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 8-6 Monday night. Snider`s second long bomb gave the Jays the lead, and B.J. Ryan pitched a two hit save in the bottom of the ninth.

April 18 vs. Oakland—Lyle Overbay hit a two run home run in the bottom of the 12th to give the Blue Jays a walk off win. Tallet makes is first career start and gets a no decision with the Jays winning 4-2 in 12 innings.

April 22 vs. Texas—Kevin Millar`s walk of single in the bottom of the 11th gives the Blue Jays a 8-7 win, after B.J. Ryan gave up three runs in the top of the ninth to blow his second save of the season.

May 12 vs. New York Yankees—The battle of teacher (Halladay) vs. student (Burnett), left many people believing the Jays were legitimate contenders. Jays win 5-1 and Burnett leaves the field with 48,000 booing.

May 29 vs. Boston—A 6-3 win snaps the terrible nine game losing skid. Janssen gets his first win of the season, and Down`s gets his sixth save of the season in front of 32,000 fans.

June 2 vs. Los Angeles Angels—Whoa Doc. Halladay strikes out 14 Angel batters and gets his MLB best ninth win of the season.

So what game takes the cake?

For me, it has to be the 5-1 win against New York. Anytime you get 48,000 fans in the Rogers Center, something spectacular is going to happen, and it sure did the night of May 12. What I like most about that game was how quiet critics got who said the Blue Jays are not contenders because they have not played any tough games before the Yankees came to town.

Right then and there, millions of baseball fans realized the Toronto Blue Jays can cause some damage in the unforgiving AL East, home of the Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, and now Blue Jays.
