Yankees Interested in Former Red Sox Pitcher Brandon Lyon

MLB Trade Rumors has reported  that the New York Yankees are interested in former Boston Red Sox reliever Brandon Lyon.

Lyon, a Type B free agent, formerly of the Detroit Tigers, posted a 2.86 ERA with a WHIP of 1.11, and a record of 6-5 last season. The Tigers offered him arbitration, which means that Detroit will get a supplemental draft pick if Lyon sign anywhere other than Detroit.

Lyon, 30, spent his 2003 campaign with the Boston Red Sox. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates mid-season, then traded back to the Red Sox a week later.

He was part of the trade to the Arizona Diamondbacks to get Curt Schilling prior to the 2004 season. He did not appear in a game with Arizona until 2005, and stayed with the D-Backs until after the 2008 season. He then signed with the Detroit Tigers.

Lyon was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 1999 draft, and made his debut with the Jays August 4, 2001. He stayed with the Jays until he was placed on waivers and was picked up by Boston on October 9, 2002.

Lyon's best season was in 2007 when he posted a career best ERA of 2.68 with a record of 6-4 and a WHIP of 1.24.

Lyon could be a good set-up man out of the Yankees bullpen, and he could provide a lot of relief to a bullpen with a few question marks left in it.
