Yankees' Spring Training Game 19: All Passing Grades

The New York Yankees beat the Minnesota Twins by a score of 5-1. The Yankee pitchers had another strong performance.

A+—Andy Pettitte

I think that Andy Pettitte is going to be washed up in 2009, especially since he stopped taking steroids. I thought that steroids were making him the pitcher he was, but I could be wrong this year. Andy pitched a great game, giving up no runs on two hits in three innings of work.

A+—Jorge Posada

It doesn't get better than going 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

B—Melky Cabrera

I'm actually rooting against Cabrera in winning the center field position because I want a stolen base guy to be in the lineup every day, which is Brett Gardner. Melky had a good day, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored

B- Phil Coke

Not a bad line. He gave up one earned run in three innings while giving up three hits.

C+—Mark Teixeira

He went hitless in two at-bats but drove in a run. I'm hoping to draft Mark in my fantasy baseball draft tonight.

C-—Hideki Matsui

He went hitless in three at-bats but drove in a run with a force play and nice hustle to first base. It's great that Matsui hustles because it shows the younger players how to play the game.

Player Of The Game: Andy Pettitte

I'm not expecting anything out of Pettitte this year because of his admitted steroid use. I think steroid users who usually stop taking steroids become bad baseball players. This is why I was surprised when Andy threw three scoreless innings.
