Brett Gardner To Have MRI, "Should Be Fine"

Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner will have an MRI performed on his right wrist due to what has become an ongoing problem.

Gardner has had trouble with his wrist since June 27, when he was hit by a pitch during the Yankees interleague series with the Dodgers

New York Yankees Notes: Pettitte, Miranda, Russo, Posada, Gardner

The Yankees have dropped two in a row in walk-off style against the Texas Rangers and things won’t get any easier today as they face Cliff Lee. Making things worse, the Tampa Bay Rays are within striking distance, just a half-game back, of first place. So there is a lot on the line this afternoon.

Joe Girardi's Crucial Mathematical Error Costs Yankees Game

Picture this: a game lasts over four hours, uses 41 players, features 374 pitches, has two blown saves, and ends in a walk-off hit by pitch—by Mariano Rivera.

Jon Niese Tries To Finish Strong Against Philadelphia Phillies in Rubber Game

After watching teammate Mike Pelfrey rebound with a solid effort against the Phillies yesterday, Jon Niese will try to do the same today.

The rookie left-hander has had three straight bad starts after four straight outstanding ones of allowing one earned run in each.

During his recent slump, the Mets have brought up the subject of limiting his innings, but decided to let him roll. They did push him back a day after his most recent outing, when he allowed five runs in six innings against the Cubs.

Colorado Rockies Keep the Pressure On, Win Again

The Colorado Rockies continued their climb to the top of the standings on Saturday night, but it didn't come the way most probably thought it would. The result, however, is the same for the Rockies, who came from behind in the late innings to win 2-1.

With Ubaldo Jimenez taking the mound against Rodrigo Lopez, who came into the game with an ERA in the mid fives, it looked like the Rockies should crush the Diamondbacks. Lopez, however, dominated the Rockies for six strong innings before allowing a Melvin Mora base hit and a Ryan Spilborghs double in the seventh inning.

San Francisco Giants Lose to San Diego Padres, 1-0

Saturday's game was characterized by dominant pitching and poor umpiring behind the plate. Madison Bumgarner pitched a beautiful game, allowing only one earned run on three hits through seven innings. The lone blemish was a third inning solo shot off of the bat of Yorvit Torrealba. Bumgarner only needed 79 pitches to get through seven innings, as he pitched extremely efficiently.

Jay Bruce—What in the H-E-Double Hockey Sticks Is Going On?

"It's not something I'm going to push at this point," Jay Bruce said Friday about his strained oblique. "I've taken the process this far. I'm going to see it through. When I come back, I want to be 100 percent ready to come back—not 90 percent, not 80 percent."

Read that real carefully.

Look at the calender, too. It points to September, and it has been a very productive year for the team, but by this point, no one is 100 percent.

San Francisco Giants Tied for First Place in NL West

May 6.

That is the last day the Giants were in 1st place. Four months later, the Giants stand atop the NL West, tied with the San Diego Padres.

Mets Try To Even Series With Phillies, Handing It To Mike Pelfrey

NEW YORK—The Mets were let down last night in the series opener against the Phillies by their young starter Jenrry Mejia. He's young in age, not just baseball years.

Today, they'll attempt to even the series by starting another younger pitcher, Mike Pelfrey. Now, Pelfrey has been around since 2006, and is 26 years old. But, he still pitches like someone of Mejia's age.

San Francisco Giants Take Fascinating, Gut-Wrenching Path To Tie for First Place

Where were we?

Oh, right, nothing about yesterday's game matters once today's game starts.

The Giants belted the Padres 7-3 to win the opener of the important four-game NL West series Thursday in San Diego. Giants fans were roaring that everything had fallen into place.

Then on Friday night, the Giants squeaked out a gut-wrenching and fascinating 1-0 win over the Padres to move into a tie for the NL West lead.
