The Boston Red Sox designated pitcher Justin Masterson for assignment Sunday, according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. 

Hall of Famer Randy Johnson played in the league for 22 years, eight of which for the Arizona Diamondbacks. He won a World Series with the club in 2001.

On Saturday, the Diamondbacks retired his No. 51, and they made the Big Unit a 51-inch corndog. That's a lot of calories, but he deserves it after an epic career. Eat up, Randy!

The Washington Nationals needed something.

Some sort of a boost, a spark, whatever, but it had to be the kind of performance that kick-started their stalling, sputtering second half. Because as things stood going into Saturday night, Washington was a flailing club in danger of falling out of arm’s reach of the rival, first-place New York Mets.

Evidently, the Texas Rangers feel the key to getting back to the postseason for the first time since 2012 is to reunite with as many members of that team as possible.

And given the names they're reuniting with, that's actually not a bad idea.

Sean McCarthy threw a washing machine to set a Guinness World Record at Great American Ball Park after last Friday's Cincinnati Reds game.

He chucked it 15 feet and nine inches.
