The Pirates had another busy trade deadline, but unlike years past, this year there were no salary dumps or accumulation of prospects. The Pirates made three trades today and all appear to be good baseball moves.

The Pirates acquired catcher Chris Snyder and minor league shortstop Pedro Ciriaco from the Arizona Diamondbacks, in exchange for Ryan Church, Bobby Crosby and D.J. Carrasco.

They also sent closer Octavio Dotel to the Los Angeles Dodgers for right-hander James McDonald and minor league outfielder Andrew Lambo.

So, how long do you think it'll take management to capitalize on this golden opportunity?  Crosby night.  Of course you'd see a couple thousand No. 87 Sidney Crosby jerseys in the stands, but what's the chance you'll see a BOBBY Crosby jersey in the stands?  Not likely. What are the chances Crosby wears the No. 87 with the Pirates?  Again, not likely.

The Oakland A's are coming off a game which should have gave them some momentum to at least get the A's in a tie for third place with the Seattle Mariners, but again their effort was again not where it should be especially for a professional baseball team.

The only offense the A's could muster against Erik Bedard was a solo homerun by Bobby Crosby.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Bobby Crosby of the Oakland A’s has been playing third base since they signed shortstop Orlando Cabrera. A couple of teams, including the Yankees, have taken notice.
