Lights Out for Phillies, Lidge Getting Lit Up

Last October the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies piled on top of their perfect closer in celebration of his forty eighth save in forty eight chances.

Carlos Ruiz was the first to wrap his arms around perfection and then the rest of the team ensued. The pile on began a celebration that had been almost thirty years in the making. However, it brought out the flaws in a closer who went through a full season and postseason perfect. That closer was Brad Lidge.

Phillie's Cole Can't Catch A Break

Cole Hamels had seemed to have it figured out tonight against the Nationals.  The Nats are a good team to get well against, but their offense can show pccasional signs of life. They roughed up the Phillies staff last night, but Hamels had his best combination of velocity and command tonight.  He dominated Washington through four and 1/3 innings at Citizens Bank Park.

An Introspective and Humorous Look at Cole Hamels: Part Deux

...And now we return to our regularly scheduled broadcast. Yes, welcome back to part two of my two-part introspective look at Cole Hamels. So continuing our discussion on Cole Hamels, let me first start off by thanking the fine people at Cole Hamels Facts [dot] com.

On The Rocky Mountain Way: A Recap Of The Phillies First Week

I would have written this article earlier if I had not heard the sad news. Sad news everyone. The legendary, Hall of Fame broadcaster, Harry Kalas; THE voice of the Phillies has passed away.

Mr. Kalas was found unconscious in the broadcasting booth prior to the beginning of the Washington Nationals- Philadelphia Phillies game this afternoon, April 13. It seems fitting for some reason that Mr. Kalas would “go” in the booth. It just seems fitting.

Phillies Ace Cole Hamels Gets Shelled: Why Is Anyone Surprised?

Last night, Cole Hamels got hammered by the Colorado Rockies. And it wasn’t just a bad outing, it was terrible.

How terrible? Look at his line of 3.2 innings pitched, 11 hits, seven earned runs, one walk, and one strikeout and answer that for yourself.

And all of a sudden, Phillies Nation seems to be on the verge of jumping off the cliff.

Top Ten Phillies since 2000

Since the turn of the century, the Phillies have had some of the best success they have had in any decade since the '70s. As the baseball season is already underway in the final year of the decade, let's take a look at who the top Phillies have been since 2000.

World Series MVP Cole Hamels Out Opening Night Versus Atlanta Braves

According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, Philadelphia lefty Cole Hamels is officially out of consideration for opening night versus the Atlanta Braves.

After injuring his pitching elbow a few weeks ago, Philly "phans" were sure their ace was going to be good to go on Apr. 5.

However, after allowing 10 hits against the pride of Philadelphia's farm on Mar. 30 in four innings (he also walked one and Kd five), pitching coach Rich Dubie said the Philly Phenom's control just wasn't good enough for the season's first game.

Injury a Risk For Young Pitchers In 2009

Cole Hamels most likely won't be on the mound when Opening Night comes around next Sunday for the Philadelphia Phillies.

His trip from sunny Clearwater to Philadelphia last week to see doctors about his elbow tightness means he won't debut until the team's fourth game against Colorado.

David Price won't open the 2009 season with the Tampa Bay Rays.

He will be in the minors, where the Rays will closely monitor his early-season workload hopefully he will be fresh for the dog days of summer.

Cole Hamels Back to Philadelphia

Here’s the scoop: Cole Hamels left Clearwater, FL tonight for the Philadelphia area to have his left elbow examined tomorrow by team doctor Michael Ciccotti.

General Manager Ruben Amaro, Jr. said Hamels complained about “a little bit of a persistent soreness” in his elbow. “We thought it was important at this time for Dr. Ciccotti to check it out,” Amaro said.
