Rockies fans rejoice!

Our team is one win short of tying a franchise record for consecutive wins in a row.

Remember that wonderful September that got the Rockies into the World Series two years ago? That was the last time the Rockies went on a run like this.

By beating the Mariners 5-3 last night, the Rockies have won 10 straight games since salvaging one game from the Astros in their four-game series.

Pinch me, I must be dreaming.

Everything seems to be working out perfectly for the Rockies. It’s like all of a sudden, something clicked and the light turned on.

He had no problems on Sunday, giving up only two runs on four hits through eight innings in the Rockies 7-2 victory.

On Friday night in St. Louis, the Colorado Rockies faced a difficult task. They were playing Albert Pujols and the second-place Cardinals. To top it off, Colorado was sending struggling lefty Jorge De La Rosa to the mound to start a four-game series.

Most write-ups regarding the firing of Clint Hurdle can't help but focus immediately on the improbable great baseball the Rockies played in September and October of 2007, and who could blame them considering it's his only accomplishment in seven years. They also talk about how unpopular and duplicitous he was with his players.

But such emphasis is dishonest. The real story of Hurdle's tenure isn't that he was fired 18 months after a World Series, or disgruntled players, but rather how he was still managing in 2007 after five years of atrocious baseball.

There was no celebration in the clubhouse. The Rockies had just shut out the Padres 3-0 behind yet another stellar pitching performance by Jason Marquis.

The speculation is over for Clint Hurdle. The Rockies have scheduled a 2:30 news conference to announce that Hurdle has been relieved of his duties and that Jim Tracy will take over on an interim basis.

The firing comes on the heels of a three-game sweep at the hands of the Dodgers, putting the Rockies 10 games under .500 and 14-1/2 games out of first place in the National League West.

The Colorado Rockies are playing bad baseball.

Through Wednesday, the team is the second-worst team in the game, slotted right behind the dreadful Washington Nationals with a record of 18-28.

The Rockies were recently swept in a three-game set with the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in abysmal fashion, losing by a combined score of 31-13. 

And they actually managed to look worse than the aggregate score would make it seem.

In 2003, just a year and a half removed from being drafted 25th overall out of Long Beach State University, Bobby Crosby stormed into the majors and won the American League Rookie of the Year award.
