Why the Yankees Are Thanking The Baseball Gods For Luis Castillo

The Yankees were seconds away from losing the first game of the Subway Series and their fourth game in a row.

As Alex Rodriguez's threw down his bat in disgust after popping up a pitch from Francisco Rodriguez, the Mets' reliable closer, something unbelievable happened.

The Mets' second baseman, Luis Castillo was attempting to settle under the pop up and as he was about to squeeze his glove on the ball, the ball dropped out of his glove, allowing Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira to score.

Bombers Banter: Wang Vs. Hughes and Yanks Vs. NL

Welcome to the latest edition of Bombers Banter, the New York Yankees round table.  As the Bombers battle Boston for the division lead and the best record in the AL, we look ahead to interleague play and discuss the Yanks' abundance of starting pitching, as well as the new Stadium.

If you would like to take part in future Bombers Banter discussions, post your e-mail address on my bulletin board.

Athlete Dating Resumes: Derek Jeter

Derek Jeter is a nine-time all-star, a four-time World champion, and a three-time gold glove winner.

Yet with of all his on-the-field accomplishments, his biggest claims to greatness can be found off-the-field.

Derek Jeter has dated a barrage of stunning women since entering the league. He even hit the coveted double-Jessica mark that men would literally kill for.

The Yankees' captain never won an MVP award, but when it comes to the ladies, he is definitely the Most Valuable Playah.

Yanks Wallop Rangers to Open Road Trip

The Yankees turned in one of their most complete performances of the season on Memorial Day as they destroyed the first-place Texas Rangers by a score of 11-1.

With Chien-Ming Wang's return on the horizon, Phil Hughes made a strong case to remain the rotation by shutting out the hot-hitting Rangers through eight innings, while Alex Rodriguez led the offensive explosion with a five-hit day.

Here are the grades from Sunday's victory in Arlington.

New York Yanks Come from Behind in Ninth to Squash Defending Champs

The Philadelphia Phillies were playing like the defending World Series Champions up until the ninth inning.

The game on Saturday afternoon seemed all but over when Alex Rodriguez stepped up to the plate with closer Brad Lidge on the mound.

Unblurring History: Ten Best Overall Shortstops In MLB History

Each and every player in the top 10 is an A + offensively and overall. But, I will also list a defensive letter grade with each player so you know where they stand in that category, the way I see it.

Here it is. Unblurring history. The way it really was.

10. Arky Vaughan (1940s) defensive rating: C +

He finished his career with a .318 BA and a .406 OB%. The guy could flat out hit and he was certainly one of the best pure hitting Shortstops in history.

The Daily Box Score May 12, 2009: New York Yankees Vs. Toronto Blue Jays

This article is a game recap based solely on what the author has read in the game's box score. If you want to know what really happened, you can go watch SportsCenter and pray that you don't change the channel before they put on the 30 second segment of the game.

Toronto Blue jays 5, New York Yankees 1

In what was claimed to be a regular off day for New York Yankee captain, Derek Jeter, 43,000-plus Canadian conspiracy theorists at the Roger's Center weren't having any of it.

The Yankee Stadium Farewell Address

October 19th, 2003.

It’s the bottom of the 11th.  The New York Yankees vs. the Boston Red Sox, game seven in the American League Championship Series. Aaron Boone steps to the plate and hits a walk off home run to left field, sending the Yankees to yet another World Series appearance.

And that’s just one recent memory. The list goes on and on. For every Yankee fan, there is a group of defining moments that occurred at the old Yankee stadium that blur the lines between sports and miracles, routine and impossibility.

Top Five: How To Fix The Yankees

Well, the fans and media that occupy Yankee-land have started to push the panic button.

After a two game sweep on Monday and Tuesday, the Yankees have now lost five in a row to the Boston Red Sox. Then after coming back from down three to the Rays on Wednesday, only to see that wasted by a Phil Coke fastball to Carlos Pena that went very far in the 10th, the Yankees last night saw the ultimate sign of the apocalypse.

My Name Is Shanan H, I Love The New York Yankees, and I Want Derek Jeter Gone!

No, I'm not writing this article for a lot of reads or comments, I really want the Yankees to trade the aging Derek Jeter, face of the Yankees, No. 1 draft pick, sure-fire Hall of Famer, and the only Yankee with a number less than 10.

Actually, I have written two articles about trading Jeter:
