Front offices from across the league will spend the MLB winter meetings in an attempt to improve their teams. However, some clubs are being more aggressive than others.

While no one is giving up on the 2014 season before it even starts, a few organizations are looking for opportunities to get younger and save money by trading away established players. Of course, there will always be contenders on the other side looking for potential stars to help in the upcoming year.

The Colorado Rockies have taken a big step toward upgrading their starting rotation by trading with the Oakland Athletics for left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson, the team announced:

The Arizona Diamondbacks finally acquired the slugger that the team coveted, completing a deal for Mark Trumbo, a rumor that Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal had first reported yesterday.

There are a number of clichés to characterize what the Seattle Mariners must do at the Winter Meetings. Strike while the iron is hot...Get while the getting's good...

Alright, maybe that's it. But the point stands: The Mariners need to do something. Preferably something worthy of headlines, as the one headline-grabbing move they have made this winter isn't enough.

The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to trade slugger Mark Trumbo to the Arizona Diamondbacks this offseason in a three-team deal involving the Chicago White Sox, the Diamondbacks announce:

On Tuesday, Major League Baseball's GIBBY Awards were announced, as voted on by "media, front-office personnel, MLB alumni, fans at MLB.com and the Society for American Baseball Research," according to MLB.com.

Ashley Papelbon, the wife of Philadelphia Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon, shared this "awkward family photo" of the two on Twitter:

The Philadelphia Phillies rebuild, it would appear, is on.

Following a lengthy stretch of success during which they won five straight National League East division crowns and the 2008 World Series title, the Phillies have stumbled the past two seasons, falling to .500 in 2012 and 73-89 last year—their worst mark since 2000.

As ESPN reported on December 9, Roy Halladay retired as a Toronto Blue Jay, but for most Phillies fans and many baseball fans, the truly indelible masterpieces he created came in Phillies' colors.

Of course, so did some of his most disappointing moments in professional baseball.
