Gerrit Cole showed the MLB why the Pittsburgh Pirates drafted him No. 1 overall in the 2011 MLB Draft, dominating the San Francisco Giants for 6.1 innings on Tuesday night.

New York Yankees fans are beginning to get fed up with two players—one because of his play and the other because of, well, himself.

Phil Hughes is one of the most inconsistent pitchers in baseball. That alone makes him difficult to watch, as you never know what kind of performance he'll bring with him to the mound on any given night. When he's on, he's one of the more dominating pitchers in the American League East.

Major League Baseball's crusade against the players who are linked to Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch is moving down to the minor leagues as a way to finally lock down those who have had any contact with the Miami-based clinic. 

Gerrit Cole made his highly anticipated MLB debut for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday as he shut down the San Francisco Giants for 6.1 innings.

The No. 1 pick from the 2011 MLB Draft, Cole needed just about two years to go from draft pick and top prospect to a successful MLB pitcher.

Peter Bourjos just made Tuesday's game between the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Angels all about him.

In just the bottom of the first inning, Bourjos saw J.J. Hardy blast a 1-1 pitch to deep center and climbed the wall to take back what would have been a two-run home run. Even teammate Mike Trout must be jealous.

Major League Baseball reportedly has found people willing to give corroboration to Biogenesis founder Tony Bosch's stories, which will undoubtedly help its case in suspending players accused of using performance-enhancing drugs.

What's shocking is who was willing to supply the information. 

Electric pitching prospects like Mark Appel and Jonathan Gray may have headlined the 2013 MLB draft class, but that doesn't mean there was a complete shortage on big-time sluggers.

There are a few prospects from this year's class that have the potential to be stars at the plate. 

Some great players stay in baseball a little bit too long. I entirely appreciate wanting to play the best game on earth for as long as possible, but there does come a point where age begins to eat away at productivity.

Not everyone can be Julio Franco or Jamie Moyer.

I am going to point out five of these players for you today. Unfortunately, for each of these guys, 2013 has not been kind so far, and I am not sure that it is going to get better.

A lot of the names have remained the same. Scott Feldman, Matt Garza, Lucas Harrell, Ricky Nolasco and Bud Norris have been identified as trade candidates since the start of the season. Why? Because they're pretty good starting pitchers on pretty bad teams. 

While those five remain strong candidates to be dealt by the July 31st deadline, there are sure to be some starters who will become trade targets because they are pitching better than expected and/or because their team's aren't in the playoff race.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have received a huge boost in excitement from Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig. Unfortunately, this will not lead to much more team success.
