The 2013 MLB Draft is fresh in our minds, and although it's hard to contain the excitement about No. 1 pick Mark Appel finally being drafted, there are many lesser-known prospects who could make a splash sooner than we think.

The Seattle Mariners are pulling out all of the stops in order to stay away from the cellar of the AL West. Their next move: calling up another top prospect.    

Larry Stone of the Seattle Times reported Tuesday afternoon that the Mariners are promoting the top position player in the organization, Mike Zunino, from Triple-A:

You know, it sure would be cool to see another 25-game winner.

I know, I know...pitcher wins are bogus. They're much too dependent on things like run support and luck dragons, and they're particularly out of place in a day and age where managers are more willing than ever to put the fate of a game in the hands of their relievers.

Yet still I hope to see a 25-game winner someday, if for no other reason than to revel in the sheer rareness of it.

Thirty-three players make the AL All-Star team, and 33 players make the NL All-Star team. That means that a mere 66 players make the initial team, which is extremely tiny when you consider that 750 players are currently on active MLB rosters.

Chicago Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart opened up on Twitter last night, causing many to shake their heads and wonder if his time with the Cubs organization is nearing an end.

It started when a fan asked Stewart, who is making $2 million this year, if he would be coming back to Chicago anytime soon. He replied, "Probably never," which started a slew of fans and critics to tweet back.

He would later say: “I meant they might as well release me since I have no shot at a call-up.”

Talk about desperate.

In the midst of an absolutely horrible start to the season for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Cuban sensation Yasiel Puig has brought the focus back to Hollywood for all the right reasons thanks to his electrifying start.

On the off chance you haven't seen or heard what he has been doing, Puig, 22, has been white-hot since being called up from Double-A Chattanooga on June 3 before a series against San Diego.
