Chad Billingsley Placed on Los Angeles Dodgers' 15-Day DL

A very thin starting LA rotation is about to get thinner. The Los Angeles Dodgers placed RHP Chad Billingsley on the 15-day DL because of a groin strain—the move is retroactive to June 12th.

Billingsley has had a real up and down season in 2010. In his first six starts the Dodger righty was 2-2 with a 5.06 ERA. Then, in his next 5 starts, Billingsley went 4-0 with a 2.45 ERA. Over his last two starts, Billingsley is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA.

So as you can see, not everything has been roses for Billingsley in 2010.

Yankees Draft Profiles: Rounds 1-39

We here at Bronx Baseball Daily are running through the draft picks. All 50 players that the Yankees drafted will be profiled. It’s been a long process, but so far we have gone through and profiled every player from rounds 1-39.

It’s a lot to take in at once, so I have provided this handy post with links to each player we’ve covered so far.

Josh Hamilton Back On Track

In his last 10 games Josh Hamilton has hit .389 with five home runs and 17 RBI's.

Josh Hamilton, who played in only 89 games in 2009 for the Texas Rangers, has played in 62 of the 64 games in 2010 and is hitting better each month of the season.

In April Hamilton hit three home runs with 11 RBI's in while hitting .265 for the month. In May he hit six home runs and drove in 16 runs.

He completed the first half of June yesterday and already has six home runs and 20 RBI in the month. He is on pace to have 40 RBI in June.

Six Rare Baseball Feats That Have Occured Twice in a Season

We've officially had two perfect games this season, and really we've had three.

How shocking is that?

Before 2010, Major League Baseball had only seen 18 perfect games - 16 if you don't count the two in 1880, during an era in which baseball was very different from its post-1901 incarnation.

To have two (three) perfect games in one year defies logic and common sense. But sometimes these things happen.

Take a look.

Yankees Notes: A-Rod, Mitre, Logan, JB Cox, Winfree

The CC Sabathia-Roy Halladay faceoff didn’t end up being the pitcher’s duel it was billed to be. The Yankees tagged Halladay for three home runs and Sabathia struggled with consistency as the Yanks won 8-3 to stay in first place.

Here are some notes:

Helpful Distractions at Wrigley Field after Cubs' Terrible Loss To A's

Right after the Wrigley Field Grounds Crew prepared the field after nearly a two-hour rain delay, the Chicago Cubs managed to mess up the field again.

The Cubs were sloppy from the get-go.

And as much as I love the Cubs dearly, I began thinking, 'this is our hometown professional baseball team?'

The Cubs' defense made themselves look anything but a major-league team Tuesday night against the Oakland A's.

Derreck Lee–the least you'd expect to make any errors–committed two that night.

All Signs Point To Atlanta Braves' Chipper Jones Retiring After 2010

All indicators seem to be pointing toward Chipper Jones retiring at the end of the 2010 season, barring some sort of miracle turnaround at the plate.

I'm hoping that he'll right the ship and somehow manage to salvage the season, but I just don't see it happening. Though, this is one case where I hope I'm wrong.

Streaking Mets Send Jon Niese To Mound, Half Game Out of First

CLEVELAND: When the season began, everyone's preseason favorite to win the NL East and even NL were the Philadelphia Phillies. Some people also picked the Cardinals to win the Central and Rockies to win the West.

Right now, on June 16, the Mets have a better record than all three of those teams, and are one-half game out of first place. The Mets also are only one-and-a-half behind the Padres for the NL's best record.
