Mets Go For Sweep of Marlins With Hisanori Takahashi on the Mound

NEW YORK—After getting swept by the Marlins in a four-game series in Miami in mid-May, the Mets will have a chance to do the same over three games at Citi Field today.

They will hope that Hisanori Takahashi can rebound from his last start on Monday in San Diego, when he gave up a grand slam in an 18-6 Mets loss.

Before that start, Takahashi had pitched scoreless ball in his first two starts against the Yankees and Phillies.

MLB Draft: Top 10 No. 1 Overall Draft Picks of All Time

With the draft on the horizon it is the perfect time to take a look back at some of baseball's all time best #1 picks. Just because someone is drafted #1 overall doesn't mean they are going to be the next best thing just look at Brien Taylor. Sometimes, however, teams who did their scouting wind up with future hall of famers.

Steroids or Not, Barry Bonds is the Best to Play the Game

People like to take the high ground whenever it is convenient for them. If you've never been put into an opportunity that could cause you to make a questionable moral decision, than it's easy to condemn it.

But let's face it, when it comes down to it, if you say that to save your job, you wouldn't have at the very least tried PHDs, then I'm calling you a liar.

Rounding The Bases: June 5

It is time to take a moment to appreciate the kind of start that Miguel Cabrera is off to, among many other things.

There is some talk about a couple of top prospects making their way to the Major Leagues; one is actually based on a report while the other is speculatory.

That is far from all the news for your Saturday, however, so dive into another version of Rounding The Bases.

Here's Looking at You, Kid: The Latest Superstar To Say Goodbye

Growing up, a lot of kids wanted to be like Mike.

Not me, I wanted to be like Ken.

George Kenneth Griffey Jr. had it all.

He had the skill at the plate and in the field that only others could dream of having, giving him that superstar label rather early in his career.

Unlike most other superstars though, Griffey also had the personality and charisma that created a likeable clubhouse atmosphere.

He was the perfect guy to look up to, and that's why so many little kids did, including myself.

Jim Tracy, Junior Varsity Rockies Lose to Diamondbacks

If you are looking for one reason why the Colorado Rockies lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 on Saturday night in Phoenix, look no further than manager Jim Tracy.

San Francisco Giants Smart to Give Pat Burrell's Tires Another Kick

Call it Christmas in June for the usual suspects in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Given the warm yuletide season around here and the scorching hot couple of days the City's seen recently, the analogy works splendidly. The only real difference is that baseball is being played at the Oakland Coliseum and AT&T Park.

And it's in the outfield of the jewel formerly known as Pac Bell where the anti-Brian Sabean ogres will (soon) find their unexpected present.

Jim Joyce: A Perfectly Human Call

In the wake of umpire Jim Joyce’s missed call in the Tigers-Indians game that cost Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga a perfect game, arguments for increasing the use of instant replay in baseball have resurfaced with renewed intensity.

Joyce called Indians infielder Jason Donald safe at first in what would have been the final out; replays later showed that Donald was clearly out at first, but baseball commissioner Bud Selig refused to reverse the call.

Give Me My Instant Replay

Last year, Major League Baseball stepped up to the technology plate and adapted instant replay. However, these implementations were very minor.

Should Girardi have gone to Mo?

As soon as Chad Gaudin came marching out of the pen for the 14th inning today I knew the game was over, and I'm sure many of you felt the same way.

Sure enough, Gaudin walked the first batter he faced on four pitches and two batters later the game was over, with Mariano waiting for a save situation that never came.

I was on Twitter at the end of the game and many people, including beat writers, bloggers and fans, began the debate well before Gaudin threw his first pitch:
