Getting D-Train Back On Track: Cardinals Should Discuss Dontrelle Willis

It's no secret that Dontrelle Willis is struggling. That's why it came as no surprise when the Detroit Tigers decided that he wasn't worth what they were spending on him—they designated him for assignment on May 30th.

However, there may be a perfect situation for him in St. Louis.

The Cardinals, who through Sunday were 29-22, could be looking for some pitching help, with starters Brad Penny and Kyle Lohse on the disabled list.

The biggest reason the Cardinals and Dontrelle could have mutual interest is the Cardinals' famed pitching coach, Dave Duncan.

Mets by the Numbers: 12 Stats About New York's Hot and Cold Offense

Baseball is a game of statistics where numbers can prove almost anything.

Already this season there are some interesting things to observe with the New York Mets, including the well-documented fact that they have the best home record in all of baseball despite the worst road record in the National League.

Here are a dozen lesser-known facts about the Mets offense and how it compares with their NL East rivals.

Fantasy Baseball Around the Majors: May 30: Pujols, Scherzer and More

Albert Pujols finally erupted.  The talk of Max Scherzer fixing his mechanics in the minor leagues certainly looked legit.  Buster Posey appears to belong in the middle of the Giants order.

Ranking Perfection: Top Five Perfect Game Pitchers of All-Time

In light of Roy Halladay's recent perfect game, I decided it would be interesting to rank the top five pitchers of all time. The catch: they must have breathed in the rarified air of the perfect game.

So Nolan Ryan out...uh, Dallas Braden in?

There have only been 20 perfect games in the history of Major League Baseball. This does limit my options for these rankings somewhat, but also should be an indication of how incredibly difficult it is to throw nine innings of perfection.

By definition, it is impossible to compare perfect items.

Mets Go To San Diego, Facing NL's Best

After a trip that didn't really go the way the Mets had hoped in Milwaukee, they will now play three at the National League's best team (record-wise), the San Diego Padres.

No, that's not a typo, the San Diego Padres at 30-20 own the NL's best record and are tied with the Cardinals for the lowest team ERA in baseball at 2.95.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Time: The Hot 8

Last week I told you it was time to add Buster Posey and Stephen Strasburg to your roster.

Less than a week later Posey collects three hits and three RBIs for the big league club in a 12-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

If you listened to The Hot 8 last week you already had Posey on your roster causing the rest of your league to search for him and witness that you indeed already had the coveted backstop.

That is what The Hot 8 is all about, being ahead of the curve and especially your league.

Grady Sizemore's Year May Be Over as Cleveland Indians Struggle

The 2010 season could possibly be over for Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore after news broke Sunday on the extent of his knee injury.

Grady originally injured the knee on a hard slide into second base on May 16 in a 5-1 win against Baltimore and it is now believed that he will miss another 6-8 weeks, at best, depending on the extent of his injuries (which will be discovered after a knee arthroscopy).

Sizemore is scheduled to have the arthroscopy later this week in Colorado with Dr. Richard Steadman.

The 10 Greatest Offensive Seasons in Major League History

I think we all know that Babe Ruth was probably the greatest offensive player in the history of baseball. Ted Williams was probably second, and Ty Cobb, Barry Bonds, and Lou Gehrig round out my own personal top five. The numbers these guys put up during their careers were astounding, but are sometimes difficult to fully appreciate out of context.

What's not difficult to appreciate is a truly great season. Last year, Albert Pujols led baseball with 47 homers. Joe Mauer led baseball with a .365 average, and Ryan Howard led baseball with 145 RBI.

Freak Injuries and the Other Kind

How do you hurt yourself jumping on home plate?  Injuries can happen any time in a million different ways. Ask Kendry Morales.

No one has ever been hurt (at least as far as I can recall) jumping on home plate after a walk-off homerun, but there is always a first time for everything, and it was bound to happen soon or a later.

This time it happened. At least it’s better than breaking your hand punching out a wall after something goes against you on the field.  That one’s happened too many times to count.

MLB Fantasy: Two-Start Pitchers for Week Nine are Lincecum, Verlander

This late in the season, it is rare to see bona fide stars sucking, but that’s what you get from Nate McLouth , Aramis Ramirez , Chone Figgins ,or Jake Peavy . All of these guys were drafted with expectations of big fantasy numbers, but all have floundered this season.
