Baseball's 2010 draft is just one week away, and the Mets will have the seventh overall pick.

After not having a first-round pick in 2009, the Mets will find themselves with a top-10 selection for the first time since 2005.

A typical response to why someone is not a baseball fan is that the game is too slow and boring.

If they only knew that baseball loves the drama.

Right now, it could not be more of a soap opera. Teams are soaring when they should be collapsing, and vice versa.

Here is my list (in dramatic order) of the top five craziest things currently going on in MLB:

If the most important MLB pre-game tradition is the shouting of "Play ball!" then the most exciting one is the ceremonial first pitch.

Sometimes the honored throwers are former players returning to their old stadiums.

According to Andy Martino of the NY Daily News, the Mets are not interested in new free agent pitchers Dontrelle Willis, formerly of the Tigers, and Nelson Figueroa, formerly of the Phillies.

We can all agree that the impact of rookies in any given sport is sometimes more crucial than that of their veteran counterparts.

Will anyone score another run against Ubaldo Jimenez?  Can the Diamondbacks find a pitcher to get the job done as the closer?  Has Alex Rodriguez gotten things going?  Let’s look at these stories and all the rest from yesterday’s games:

Usually, when people hear about a walk-off in Dodger Stadium, it involves an Andre Ethier walk-off home run. Although he was a part of a turning point in this game, and although he was back in the lineup for the first time in 15 games after suffering a broken pinkie finger, he wasn't the reason why they won last night: Casey Blake was.

Imagine if fans cast their All Star votes with the intention of actually picking the most deserving players.

How would things be different?

1. To call this season "'68 redux" may be doing it a disservice. After all, only one perfect game was thrown that year; we saw two this past month. I suppose A-Rod can't question Dallas Braden's credentials any more. As for Halladay, nothing he does surprises me. Every time he takes the mound, we're truly witnessing greatness.

2. His first name could be Bob or Tom, and America would still know Ubaldo Jimenez's name after the month he just had. He started May with an ERA of 0.79, and ends it at 0.78.

Roy Halladay threw the 19th regular-season perfect game in major-league history on Saturday in a 1-0 win over the Marlins. It was only the sixth of those perfect games thrown on the road.

A-Rod almost knocked David Huff's head off. A walk off grand slam by the Angels Kendry Morales' results in a broken leg.

And we have a 10-game winner who is on pace for 32 wins. Juuuust another week on the diamond.
