The injury bug has bitten Detroit Tigers star Yoenis Cespedes, as he left the team's spring training game on Thursday with a leg injury.

The early parts of spring training have given us a glimpse as to what the roster may look like come Opening Day.

It's an important spring for a number of guys, given the large amount of turnover the Atlanta Braves had this offseason.

Spring training offers the chance for guys to win starting positions. This looks to be the case at second base, left field, two starting rotation spots and a number of bullpen spots.

The Toronto Blue Jays had every reason to be excited about not just what Marcus Stroman could do on the mound in 2015, but what he could do for their chances of winning their first division title since 1993.

But sadly, the key word is "had." Whatever hopes the Blue Jays had for Stroman in 2015 are gone now.

Cleveland Indians pitcher Gavin Floyd is out indefinitely after suffering a recurrence of the right elbow stress fracture that limited him to nine starts in 2014.

In case you haven't been keeping a countdown of your own, the New York Yankees have been kind enough to let everyone know —as only they can—how many days there are until Opening Day 2015.

It's a good reminder for Yankees fans that a dynasty still exists despite the retirement of Derek Jeter and the injury to ace Masahiro Tanaka. Yankees haters, on the other hand, have noted that the Bronx Bombers have not hoisted the trophy since 2009. So there!

Hector Olivera, the 29-year-old Cuban infielder who is expected to break the bank when he signs with a Major League Baseball team, is reportedly starting to draw serious interest around the league.

Pitching and defense might win championships, but a roster full of Cy Young Award winners and Gold Glove defenders isn't going to find much success if its players can't put a few runs on the board.

Outscoring your competition is how the game is ultimately won, after all.

While offense continues to trend downward, as Jonathan Judge of The Hardball Times noted last year, baseball still has plenty of formidable lineups for opposing pitchers to worry about.

There's nothing wrong with looking forward to watching the usual suspects in an upcoming baseball season. Indeed, why would there be anything wrong with champing at the bit for some Mike Trout, Clayton Kershaw or Andrew McCutchen?

At the center of the latest controversy for Major League Baseball is an aging, embattled, injury-prone, high-priced former MVP. And for once, it isn't Alex Rodriguez.
