The Los Angeles Dodgers received a scare on Saturday evening when star shortstop Hanley Ramirez left their game against the Colorado Rockies with an apparent thumb injury, according to a tweet from Bleacher Report's Scott Miller:

The baseball gods can be fickle beasts sometimes. On the same night that he sent teammate Jean Segura to the clubhouse, Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun left Saturday's 5-3 win against the Chicago Cubs with an intercostal strain:

He finished 1-for-4 in the win before making way for Elian Herrera in the ninth inning.

This season was expected to be a very solid step in the right direction for the Chicago Cubs.

However, this season hasn't given much reason for optimism yet on the North Side. There have been several players, including many in the bullpen, that have disappointed so far. That being said, there have been just as many players who have gotten off to good starts. 

The MLB instant replay system is definitely still a work in progress.

John Schuerholz, the Atlanta Braves president and the MLB replay committee chair, admitted as much, via Jayson Stark of ESPN.

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura suffered a freak injury on Saturday night, getting hit in the face by Ryan Braun in the team's dugout.

Cubs broadcaster Len Kasper reported that Braun was stretching and swinging his bat around when he connected with Segura:

Nothing seemed to go right for one New York Yankees fan in the top of the sixth inning Saturday.

In a matter of seconds, he whiffed while trying to catch a foul ball, lost his hat and couldn't connect on a high-five with another fan:

That's a rough series of events. 

The Yankees did hold on to win 4-3, so that probably made his day a little better.

The Detroit Tigers will need to find a way to hold their lead in the American League Central without starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez for the next 15 days.

Major League Baseball is considering a rule change at the end of the regular season that would possibly allow pitchers to use pine tar on the mound.

The discussion comes on the heels of a recent incident involving New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda. The young player was caught with pine tar on his neck during a game and was subsequently suspended 10 games:

Four weeks ago, the 2014 Major League Baseball season arrived. The glitz and glamour of Opening Day came with reactions from offseason moves and spring training narratives.

While it's foolish to amend most preseason expectations and declarations with only about 15 percent of the schedule finished, perspective is starting to arrive for the season playing out in front of our eyes. Four weeks of competition isn't enough to win a pennant, but it could be enough to make analysts and fans reconsider what seemed academic just one month ago.
