New York Mets

Sandy Alderson is the 12th General Manager in New York Mets' history.  What are the notable and famous (or infamous) legacies of his predecessors?  A quick review does reveal that putting together miracles doesn't come easy and flops apparently do.  In any case the evolution of Casey Stengel ("the only thing worse than a Mets' game is a Mets' doubleheader") to Terry Collins (we'll be prepared...I'll tell you that!) the GM's have made the decisions, pulled the strings on trades and have been goats and heroes.  Take a look!

Yesterday, I heard that the Mets would not make any moves until sometime into January. Sandy Alderson and company have decided to wait out the market rather than throwing their money at uncertainty.

Surprisingly, several good starting pitchers are still available, yet teams appear reluctant to pull the trigger.

I figured that once Cliff Lee signed, the other starters would fall like dominoes, since teams in need for starting pitchers would not want to be left in the dust.

Since the Yankees failed in their quest to get Cliff Lee, the Yanks need to make a trade and make one now! They cannot go into the 2011 season with the same thin pitching staff that got them unceremoniously dismissed from the postseason. The Yankees need a solid No. 2 pitcher behind C.C. Sabathia and the Mets have him.

Who should the Yankees go and trade for?

The answer is Johan Santana.

As the baseball offseason continues, New York Mets fans become increasingly frustrated. They've watched every other team in the NL East make improvements. The Phillies added Cliff Lee, the Braves traded for Dan Uggla, the Nationals added Jayson Werth and the Marlins added good pieces in trades with Atlanta and Boston.

What have the Mets done so far?

They added a bullpen piece (D.J. Carrasco) and a backup catcher (Ronny Paulino).

Many Mets fans are expecting this to be a long season. However, there is one way that Mets management can make the year a lot more interesting: Hire former Montana Tech football coach Bob Green.

Yes, Bob Green has no experience coaching baseball. However, he would be perfectly fine as a bench coach.

Most readers have no idea as to why this suggestion would even make sense. I direct you to the video below.

Big name free agents are flying off the market at a rapid pace.  Almost every big name free agent has agreed to terms with a team.

The free agent class of 2010 was very top heavy.  It lacked depth, especially in the pitchers market.  After Cliff Lee signed with Philadelphia, that made Carl Pavano the new top free agent pitcher.

So we all have read that Johan Santana won’t be with us the first half of the season. This is a tough pill to swallow for New York Mets fans and to be completely blunt about it, I’m tired of the pessimism surrounding the New York Mets for this upcoming 2011 season from media and fans alike.

The world is not over! The season hasn’t even begun yet! It’s only December!

OK, so this title is a bit corny, but it certainly rings true as the Mets approach the half-way point of the offseason. Spring training is a little over a months and a half away, and it appears the Mets still have much to do to gear up for the season.

I wrote last week that now that the New York Yankees have moved on from Cliff Lee, they would look to improve their bullpen instead of their starting rotation. True to form, the Yankees found themselves a reliever to help counteract the recent left-handed acquisitions by the Boston Red Sox.

The New York Mets have several outfield options right now. Among them, they have Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay and Angel Pagan most likely as the Opening Day starters. Also, they can add Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and, on occasion, Nick Evans to the outfield mix too. This is another reason they were able to cut Chris Carter earlier this offseason.
