A Difference Between Mickey and Joe DiMaggio

In one way, Mickey Mantle was the antithesis of Joe DiMaggio. The Jolter was such an aloof individual that rookies dared not to approach him, much less attempt to speak to him. Mickey Mantle used to rush over to greet new players with an outstretched hand.

"I'm Mickey Mantle," he would say, as if the young player didn't know. It was one of Mickey's nicest gestures.

When questioned about his rookie season, Mickey related that his first thrill as a Yankee was shaking hands with Joe DiMaggio.

Which young players are stepping up into stardom?

One of the most highly anticipated inter-league series this season has already lived up to expectations. CC Sabathia limited Los Angeles to one run over eight innings as the Yankees topped the Dodgers, 2-1, Friday night at Dodger Stadium.

Kincaid’s is supposed to have one of the best hamburgers in America. 

Each morning they grind a fresh batch of prime beef, g rilled to perfection, served on a bulky roll, and garnished with your choice of any or all kinds cheese, crisp lettuce, sliced tomatoes, grilled onions, and jalapenos.  Yummy. 

The new Yankee Stadium has only been open for just over a year now, but in that short time span, it has played host to some very special and memorable games in Yankee history.

From a World Series to a 15 inning epic, here are my top five most memorable games at the new big ballpark in the Bronx.

Yankees -Dodgers  is one of the most classic and enduring rivalries in all of American sports. These two clubs have had a unique relationship since the early 20th century when the Dodgers still played at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn.

According to Josh Norris of the Trentonian , the Yankees have promoted their 2007 first-round draft pick RHP Andrew Brackman to Double-A Trenton and he will start tonight.

As you may have heard, tonight's interleague opener between the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers doubles as a reunion between Joe Torre and the franchise he once helped lead to four World Series titles.

Nearly to a man, the praise of Torre has been effusive, with the notable exception of Alex Rodriguez, who's been conspicuously tight-lipped on the topic. (Translation: He no-like the guy.)

The Bombers are barely leading the pack.

What started out as a four-horse race with the Yanks playing second fiddle is now a crowd of three with the Yanks on top.

With Toronto currently down seven games, the Yankees are preoccupied with keeping the Rays (two games back) and Red Sox (two and a half games back) at a distance.

I must admit, I am a bit disappointed to see Toronto fall out of the race (for now at least). Sure, everyone knew that four teams weren't going to be fighting over first place for the season's entirety, but it was still fun to watch.
