Pitching Preview: Champs vs. Phillies

It’s the 2009 World Series all over again as the Yankees host the Phillies for three games in the Bronx.

The last time the Phillies were in town, the Yankees became world champions—a feeling Yankees fans hope to relive by beating the Phillies once again.

Both line-ups are stacked with power, from Utley to Posada.

Grand Jorge Posada Leads New York Yankees To First Place

When Yankees fans woke up today and looked through the sports page of their local newspaper, they will see a friendly and familiar site. The New York Yankees are back in first place, albeit a tie with the Tampa Bay Rays .

While the Rays have gone just 5-5 in their last ten games, the Yankees won seven of their past ten to pull even with the Rays at 40-23 overall this season.

New York Yankees Notes: First Place, The Phil Hughes Rules, Injuries, and More

The Yankees are back in first place after beating the Astros 9-5 yesterday behind a strong performance by Phil Hughes and another Jorge Posada grand slam.

Here are some notes:

Upcoming Yankees Series Could Bring Hope for Phillies

While it was nice to see the Phillies leave Boston on a positive note with a 5-3 win against the Red Sox, it's difficult not to look ahead and dread the Phils' three-game series in New York against the red-hot Yankees.

The two teams have been on two completely different paths this season, as the Yankees have seemingly breezed their way to an impressive 40-23 record, while the Phillies are struggling for every single run—much less a win.

The Doc Is Making a House Call: Roy Halladay Set To Square Off With CC Sabathia

Just when you thought that you would never see him again after being traded to Philly this past offseason, Roy Halladay returns to clash with the Yankees in the Bronx.

Halladay is not the same as he was last year either, he's better.

Heading into tomorrow's game, his record stands at 8-4 to the tune of a 1.96 ERA, along with his 85 strikeouts and 14 walks.

And as many Yankee fans know, Halladay has done quite well to holding the Bombers down in the past, with an 18-6 record and 2.84 career ERA against the Yankees.

6/12 Minor League Report

Andy Pettitte Making a Strong and Silent Case for AL Cy Young

Andy Pettitte has had a remarkable MLB career.  He's won 12 or more games in 14 of his first 15 seasons, and is the only pitcher in major league history to have a record above .500 for all of his first 15 seasons.

Missing amongst those accomplishments is a Cy Young award.  This year may be Pettitte's best chance at that coveted pitching award yet—and seemingly, no one is talking about it.

AL East Getting Back to Normal

The American League East had looked a bit strange for much of the beginning of the 2010 baseball season. The Tampa Bay Rays have been on top since the start. At many points, they've had a significant lead over the rest of the division. That has since changed.

The Toronto Blue Jays had been rolling early on and making everyone believe the division would be a four-team race. That has since changed.

The New York Yankees were right there with the Blue Jays and kept battling between second and third place.
