New York Yankees

New York Yankees

New York Yankees News and Notes

I am hopeful the Yankees will play tonight, since it has only been misting all morning, but I'm not sure what is going to happen tonight. If the game is played it will be Andy Pettitte vs. Dana Eveland. Jason Giambi must be chomping at the bit to get started, as he makes his return I am sure to applause. The Big G is a character and the fans have grown to love him.

Chien-Ming Wang: A Buy Low Opportunity?

Chien-Ming Wang, a starting pitcher for the New York Yankees, has had an absolutely terrible start to the season.  In three starts this season, his record is 0-3 with an ERA of 34.50 and a 2/6 K/BB ratio.  Is this guy worth taking a chance on in your fantasy league?

Prior to the start of this season, Wang had been showing declining control.

2006: 2.1 BB/9

2007: 2.7 BB/9

2008: 3.3 BB/9

For Love Of The Gate: MLB Breaking Fan's Hearts and Wallets

Time has a way of stripping us of everything we love. It lures away our youth, diminishes our health, and steals our innocence. Sometimes, the latter of these is the hardest to take.

As Kevin Costner’s character Billy Chapel, of the Detroit Tigers, walked to the mound at Yankee Stadium during the ninth inning of the 1999 classic “For Love of the Gamem,” he stared at his baseball as if to ask for help.

Being 40 years of age and having played over 19 seasons, his youth was far from gone, his health was in question, and his innocence compromised.

The Torn Hip Labrum Is the New “In” Surgery

Forget about those old fashioned procedures such as Tommy John elbow surgery, torn MCL's and ACL's in the knees and the labrum surgeries in the throwing shoulders.

The new surgery appears to be the repairing of the labrum in the hips, an injury that has received severe media coverage since Alex Rodriguez had his labrum repaired in March.

Steroids Are Peformance DE-HANCERS

Beating the Dead Horse

Have I rendered my opinion about Performance-enhancing substances to you yet?

No? Well, allow me—steroids are misunderstood. They receive too much credit for assisting athletes on the field of play. In reality, they don't make much of a difference because plenty of sucky players took them and guess what—they still sucked.

The only thing PEDs do is make a person completely intolerable and turn them into incredible liars. Suddenly everyone is an Egyptian—standing waist deep in de-nial.

An Open Request for Major League Baseball To End the Steroid Era

On December 17, 2007, Senator George Mitchell published his 20-month study on Major League Baseball players that used anabolic steroids and human growth hormone (HGH).

Eighty-nine current and former players were named in the Mitchell Report, but there were many unmentioned players that have used performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs).

The report signaled that the MLB was not yet making an attempt to get over the steroid era.

What to Do with Chien-Ming Wang

It looks like the Yankees are going to skip Chien-Ming Wang's start on Friday in Fenway Park. They have a off day on Thursday and it looks like they may have Wang throw a simulated game of 80-100 pitches, they can also stop him during the game and correct some mechanical issues.

Analyzing the New Homer-Happy Ballpark

There is a new ballpark from which balls are flying out at a record pace. Home runs are jumping off the bats of both the home team and its opponents, much more so than in the team's road games, begging the question of whether this new park is going to play like Coors Field. Or at least, like Coors Field used to play.

I'm talking, of course, about Chase Field in Arizona.

Jorge Posada Prevails In Pinch-Hitting Appearance

After an absolutely embarrassing loss on Saturday, the Yankees needed a morale-boosting win in the last game against the Cleveland Indians.  Going to the mound for the Indians was former laughing stock of New York—Carl Pavano.

When Pavano took the mound, it was almost surprising that he was still in one piece after his injury-plagued stint with the Yankees.  But then he retired the side in order.  It was the same story in the second inning...and then the third.
