Now Is the Winter of Our Discontent: Tigers Offseason

It has been a while since I have written anything for Bleacher Report; let’s hope college has benefited my writing.

It was a forgone conclusion that the Tigers would trade Curtis Granderson. He was an expensive commodity that we could get good value for in return. The Tigers have long been looking to get younger, and cheaper, and Granderson and Placido Polanco were the casualties of a tight budget.

Scott Rolen Gets Contract Extension: Is He the Modern Ron Santo?

As a devoted Chicago Cubs fan for more than a decade now, I have long been keenly aware of the plight of Ron Santo. Santo, who was a key cog during the Cubs' quasi-revival in the late 1960s and early 1970s, now broadcasts Cubs games for WGN radio, and so remains (alongside Ernie Banks) the face of the Cubs franchise, some 35 years after the end of his illustrious career.

Merry Christmas: Orioles Surpise Fans With Gonzalez, Atkins Signings

Last year at this time, if you remember, I bought into the falsified Tex to Baltimore rumors hook, line, and sinker.

John Lackey Dons a Boston Red Sox Uniform: As One Story Ends, Another Begins

If you were listening very closely, you would've heard a determined cheer from a small group of San Francisco Giant fans when John Lackey signed with the Boston Red Sox.

When the 31-year-old right-hander decided to take the (most) money and run to the East Coast, the last hanging chad from that brutal 2002 World Series was clipped and the October cluster-fornication could be forgotten, once and for all.

The New York Baseball All-Decade Team: Position Players

We are only a few weeks until it is the end of this decade, I was thinking and I decided that I would make the New York Baseball All-Decade Team.

This decade was great for the Yankees in winning two World Series but not great for the Mets in only making the playoffs a couple of times.

In fact, in the first World Series of the decade the two New York teams faced eachother in the Subway Series, The Yankees won the series in five games with Derek Jeter being named the MVP.

In this decade, both New York teams had players that will forever be a part of the franchises' history such as Piazza, Jet

MLB Offseason Rumors: Cheap Alternative to Strip Clubs

In the mood for a nice tease, but don't feel like dropping by the bank to get some singles and let the wife know about your "very important work project?"

Go to ESPN.com and click on the rumor central area. Or, mlbrtraderumors.com.

Same old blood rush without the touch.

In reality, the baseball season never ends.

Tonight on SportsCenter: The Yankees have JUST won the 2009 World Series!

2010 New York Yankees Younger, Cheaper, Better Than 2009 Team

There is much teeth-gnashing among Yankees fans as they mourn the departure of Hideki Matsui and probable loss of Johnny Damon .  Even here at the Bleacher Report, writers accuse management of penny-pinching at the expense of the team on the field .  These writers are wrong.  Brian Cashman's moves have made the 2010 Yankee

Carlos Silva for Milton Bradley: We All Lose

When it comes to the Mariners and Cubs, I’m fairly split in terms of my opinions. I’m a fan of each team, and it’s hard for me to distinguish my fandom. The two teams have played only six games against each other outside of spring training, so there hasn’t been a lot of reason to root for one over the other.

Actually, the Cubs and Seattle hold some history together, as Lou Piniella managed the Mariners for several years, and Ryne Sandberg, the Cubs' Hall-of-Fame second baseman grew up in Spokane, WA.

Here's a Thought: For Once, I Agree With Omar Minaya

I'm a member of the "new school," that typically looks hard at sabermetrics as a form of player evaluation and takes issue with those inside the game who don't.

Dayton Moore and Ed Wade are the two easiest targets in baseball front offices for sabermetric scorn, but the Mets' Omar Minaya is pretty close.

Then again, nobody likes Minaya these days; at least, I don't think many Mets fans do (as an A's fan, I wouldn't know). Heck, I just blasted his Rule 5 pick, Carlos Monasterios, in my last article.

But, for one night, I'm going to give the man some props.
