Derek Jeter is currently in Tampa, rehabbing from a calf injury and trying to make it back to the Bronx for the stretch run of the 2013 season. In the aftermath of a fractured ankle set back and subsequent leg injuries, the 39-year-old shortstop has played in just five games this season. 

Far out of contention, the New York Mets will use the 2013 season’s final 40 games to evaluate which prospects—if any—can be key contributors for the team next season.

September is an exciting month in Major League Baseball. There are playoff races, MVP battles, Cy Young matchups. An underrated but nonetheless important aspect of the final month is the expansion of rosters and prospects being called up. 

We have already seen a flurry of top-prospect activity in recent weeks, dating back to Tampa Bay calling up Wil Myers to the Red Sox surprising a lot of people by bringing up Xander Bogaerts for the stretch run.
