In 2012, nobody could stop Miguel Cabrera from finishing off the first Triple Crown season since Carl Yastrzemski’s in 1967.

In 2013, there’s one guy who could stop Miggy from becoming the first player in history to win two straight Triple Crowns: Baltimore Orioles slugger Chris Davis.

Looking to secure not only a postseason berth but the NL Central division title, the Pittsburgh Pirates have added a pair of veteran bats in a deal with the New York Mets.

Injuries are part of the game, sure. Oscar Taveras, the organization’s top prospect is out for the season, left-handed starting pitcher John Gast and right-hander Tyrell Jenkins are also lost for the season due to significant injury.

However, with every downfall, a glimmer of hope emerges down on the farm. A number of young, talented players are getting hot at the right time as their season draws to a close.

The fantasy season, like the regular season, is coming to a close, but there is still time to make a difference in September thanks to the wonder of September call-ups. 

Most of the top prospects who were going to get brought up this year have been called up already. We aren't going to see a more highly-regarded player than Boston's Xander Bogaerts, brought up last week, before the end of the year, though that doesn't mean there aren't options to choose from. 

Red Sox rookie Xander Bogaerts made his Major League debut last week during a road trip, signalling his arrival as the latest impact infield prospect to arrive in recent years.

If the 20-year-old can live up to the hype placed upon him as Baseball America's No. 8 prospect heading into the season, Boston may have added a future star to their lineup in the midst of a pennant race.

With a tear in his elbow and a long gaze lost on the game before him, Matt Harvey received a much-needed hug from battery mate and friend John Buck. 

Ryan Vogelsong pitched like the Vogelsong of old during the San Francisco Giants' last homestand. He allowed two runs on eight hits and two walks over 15 innings while striking out 10. He's delivered a quality start in three of his four outings since returning from the disabled list.

Following another disappointing performance by 27-year-old hurler Phil Hughes, the New York Yankees are left wondering what pitcher they will be putting on the mound every fifth day.
