The Boston Red Sox have started their 2013 season off in an impressive fashion, taking three out of four games on the road against the New York Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays. They will soon get even stronger, as the impending returns of injured players Stephen Drew and David Ortiz will shake up the roster.

Heading into the 2013 season, Orioles first baseman Chris Davis wasn't a well-known star in the Baltimore lineup.

Within four games, that's changed.

By its very definition, the word "superstar" denotes a position of power and strength. In fact, Merriam-Webster.com defines the word as "a star (as in sports or the movies) who is considered extremely talented, has great public appeal and can usually command a high salary."

MLB pitchers who fit that description would include Justin Verlander, Felix Hernandez and Clayton Kershaw, just to name a few.

The first trade of a major league player in the 2012 regular season didn’t take place until April 21 when the Cubs traded Marlon Byrd to the Red Sox for reliever Michael Bowden and a player to be named later.

The Astros got the ball rolling earlier in 2013 by acquiring Travis Blackley from the A’s for Triple-A outfielder Jake Goebbert on April 4. Exciting, right?

Fresh off of winning the National League Central crown in 2012, the Cincinnati Reds are the favorites to repeat but could face some roadblocks in their quest to get back to the postseason.

The team won 97 games and were the first team to clinch its division last season, so it had plenty of time to prepare for the playoffs. Unfortunately, the Reds were sent home earlier than expected, and they are hoping to avoid an even bigger letdown this season.

It won't be because of poor play. It will be because Toronto fans hates Boston manager John Farrell.

We're all baseball fans here, so I feel safe in assuming that we all love stud rookies. They give us the warm fuzzies.

On the flip side, I also feel safe in assuming that we all fear what could happen to our favorite rookies. That dreaded phrase: "sophomore slump."

That joke is admittedly juvenile, but what the heck. In April you can joke a little bit about a 4-2 loss. In life you need to laugh, especially if your life is a baseball season. Baseball is a marathon of 162 games; if you can’t kick back and joke or relax, you’re going to drive yourself insane.
