When Johan Santana was brought to New York in the winter of 2008, it was with much fanfare that he would be the savior that brought the Mets some respectability after the collapse of 2007.

During Santana’s tenure as a Met so far, they have not won anything, in fact they are actually a worse performing team than they were in 2007. 

The Philadelphia Eagles have been the talk of the town for so many years. From Randall Cunningham, to the endless plethora of quarterbacks in between, to Donovan McNabb, they have pulled a big part of this city's sports weight, if you will, behind them.

The former No. 4 prospect in baseball Jeremy Hermida signed a Minor League deal with the Oakland Athletics on Friday.

Hermida, 26, has been inconsistent in his major league career so far, as his best season was back in 2007 with the Florida Marlins, where he hit 18 home runs and drove in 63 runs while hitting .296 for the year.

After that season, he hit .259 in 2008 and .249 in 2007: clearly becoming worse as each new season started.

After inexplicably having Jenrry Mejia start the season on the Mets' major league roster as a reliever, the situation has finally been fixed. Mejia is a starter, and he will be able to help the Mets in the future in that capacity.

I was nine years old in 1964 and just beginning to follow baseball.  It was the year of the Phillies' collapse.  However, the Phillies beat the Reds on the last day, crushing the Reds' hope of a one game playoff with the Cardinals, with the winner going to the World Series.

When the Mets let Rod Barajas move across the country to Los Angeles, they effectively handed the everyday job to Josh Thole, the team’s top catching prospect. 

The final few weeks of the season will operate as a test of sorts.  The Mets need to determine if Thole has what it takes to handle the everyday job in 2011 or if they need to shop in free agency again.

Andy Pettitte threw a simulated game, three innings, this morning and came through feeling great.

Coming into the 2010 baseball season, there was no clearer choice than the St. Louis Cardinals as National League Central Division champs.

They had Albert Pujols, the best player in baseball, and possibly the best 3-4 combination in Pujols and Matt Holliday.
