San Francisco Giants' Pitching Drought: What Happened to Tim Lincecum and Pals?

Heading into the 2010 Major League Baseball season, there was one thing the Bay Area and everyone else knew for sure about the San Francisco Giants. Namely, that the squad would contend as long and as hard as the starting pitching would allow.

It was justifiably considered the organization's backbone and primary weapon on the diamond.

Two-time defending National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum, as notorious for throwing smoke as he became for inhaling it, was the unquestioned leader of the staff.

MLB: Mark Prior Set to Make a Comeback as he Signs With the Rangers

The Texas Rangers have signed yet another hard throwing arm for their pitching staff. Well, at least when he was first called up he had great start to his career with that arm before it fell apart. Mark Prior has reportedly signed a minor league deal with the Texas Rangers, according to Fort Worth Star Telegram's Jeff Wilson.

He states that the deal will not just run through 2010, but could be intact for the long-term on his Twitter page.

MLB: Texas Rangers Give Mark Prior Another Chance

The last time Mark Prior took the mound in a major league game, it was August 10th, 2006 against the Milwaukee Brewers. He lasted just three innings that day as he gave up four hits, five walks, and four earned runs.

Blackballing the McCourts: Is It Logical for Dodgers Fans To Boycott Games?

The Los Angeles Dodgers' fan faithful is represented very well by people of different ages, races, lifestyles, and personal beliefs.

And among all the fans, there are various levels of allegiance and devotion—some folks have the ability to recall any imaginable statistic in the history of the franchise, while others may simply enjoy a gorgeous day at the Ravine with friends and family.

Yankees Notes: Javier Vazquez, 3B, Andy Pettitte, Nick Swisher and Damaso Marte

The Yankees have whittled their magic number down to 20 as they go for their eighth win in a row this afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Here are some notes:

Twins Bullpen: Why Having a Deep 'Pen Is Doing More Harm Than Good

After the acquisition of closer Matt Capps, the Minnesota Twins had a consistent bullpen. Every reliever knew what his job was going to be. Every reliever had his inning.

It was organized. Peaceful.

Flash forward a month.

The Twins acquired two more relievers: Randy Flores off of waivers from the Colorado Rockies and Brian Fuentes via trade from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of California of the United States in North America.

New York Mets Give Jenrry Mejia His First Major League Start

CHICAGO— It's that time of year in Major League Baseball. Teams who are no longer in the race get a good look at what their future holds. For the Mets, it's no different.

Alive only mathematically in the NL playoff race, they will start a young pitcher for the first time in his career. 20-year-old Jenrry Mejia will get the call this afternoon, after impressing during his past three Minor League starts.

Colorado Rockies Cook Up a Victory

Can the 2010 season for the Colorado Rockies get any more strange?

With a 4-3 victory over the San Diego Padres on Friday night, the Rockies moved closer in the standings to the Padres in the West than they are to the Phillies in the Wild Card. All of this coming a work week after being within three-and-a-half games of the Phillies.

Such is life for the Colorado Rockies in 2010.

Nyjer Morgan Doesn't Deserve an Eight Game Suspension, Sorry

Nyjer Morgan's latest suspension for charging Marlins P Chris Volstad for throwing behind him drew a ludicrous eight game suspension from Bud Selig, in addition to his previous seven game suspension currently under appeal.

Volstad allegedly threw behind Morgan in retaliation for a heinous crime: Stealing two bases in a row when his team was down by 10 runs.

Oh no. He's lucky he doesn't get suspended for that, too.

NL East: After Win, Phillies One Game Back of First Place Braves

What else is there to say about the starting pitching and, more specifically, Cole Hamels?

The guy has been lights out for most of the season, and appears to be more focused than he's ever been during his time in Philly. The immature side-issues seem all but gone, he appears to have grown up, and he seems to really be hitting his stride as a consistent pitcher.
