Not a Bum for Acting: Reviewing Derek Jeter's Cameo in "The Other Guys"

"The Other Guys" opened in theaters this past Friday starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. But the comedy film starred a very popular New York figure in Derek Jeter.

The Yankees shortstop has been on Saturday Night Live and is engaged to actress Minka Kelly, so the acting potential is all around him. There was a lot of hype building up to his acting debut in a blockbuster, but he failed to disappoint.

Ranking Toronto Blue Jays Brandon Morrow's One-Hitter

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Brandon Morrow pitched a one-hit shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday afternoon. Though Morrow did not complete the no hitter, some would say that his pitching performance is better than most of the perfect games and no hitters this season.

Morrow struck out 17 Rays batters and only allowed four total base runners: two walks, one error and the one hit from Evan Longoria that broke up the bid for the no hitter with two outs in the ninth.

David Ortiz: Is Big Papi Era About to End for Boston Red Sox Nation?

David Ortiz struck out three more times yesterday, reminding us that he has truly become an all-or-nothing hitter.

Ortiz now has 109 whiffs in 340 at-bats this season, which means he's striking out a whopping 32 percent of the time.

The Boston DH's strikeout total is third highest in the AL, behind Austin Jackson (114) and Carlos Pena (111). For the record, the latter two are both position players who make an impact defensively, at least mitigating some of the impact of their frequent strike outs.

Things Just Keep on Getting Worse: Jack Wilson Sustains Freak Injury

On Sunday, the Seattle Mariners were told that their shortstop Jack Wilson has a fractured bone in his left hand because of an accident he had.

The circumstances are what is really weird. Jack Wilson injured his hand when he was in the bathroom. The Mariners say he slipped and fell on his left hand while he was in there.

X-rays that were taking showed a fracture on Sunday. This is one of the most bizarre injuries you will ever see.

Colorado Rockies Bats Come Alive, Salvage Split in Pittsburgh Pirates

The Colorado Rockies went into Pittsburgh desperate to prove that they could win away from Coors Field. The last time out on the road the club dropped nine out of 11 games.

After three games against the Pirates, the Rockies were on the brink of losing three of four to the worst team in the National League. Luckily for the Rockies, the bats arrived at the ballpark and the Rockies salvaged a series split, winning 8-4.

Fantasy Baseball Box Score Breakouts – 8/7/10

Here’s a look at the unheralded players who played well yesterday.

Desperate Times Call For Desperate Measures; Red Sox Sign Carlos Delgado

In my opinion, the Boston Red Sox suffered the death blow to their season when they learned on Friday that first baseman Kevin Youkilis would be out for the season. It’s going to be really hard to lose someone of Youkilis’ caliber and still try to make up five or six games on the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays in the competitive American League East.

Mets-Phillies: R.A. Dickey Takes On Ace Roy Halladay in Finale

PHILADELPHIA: The Mets needed a dominant performance from a starter in order to be sure of a victory, with the way their offense is slumping. They got that from Johan Santana last night.

Today, they will pitch R.A. Dickey, who unbelieveably owns the lowest ERA on the Mets staff. Yes, that's not a typo, Robert Allen Dickey has been the Mets most consistent and reliable pitcher since his call-up.

He has pitched at least five innings in each start, and has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 13 of his 15 starts this season.

Huston Street And the Rockies Suffer a Crushing Blow

When Ian Stewart hit the game-tying three run homer in the top of the 9th inning, things felt good. When Todd Helton, with all of his power zapped by a bad back, drilled a two-run home run in the top of the 10th, all of the pressure lifted. The Rockies were going to win the game that they should win, and put themselves right back in the playoff mix.
