2010 Is Overwhelmingly Pitcher Friendly

I’m sure you have heard a lot about 2010 being the year of the pitchers. Look at this chart below showing the league averages since the year 2000. So far in 2010, every category is at it’s lowest point since 2000.

New York Mets Commit Four Errors in Ugly Loss To Atlanta Braves

ATLANTA-- This may mark the end for the 2010 New York Mets. The game that proved they aren't worthy of playing October baseball.

With the game they played tonight in Atlanta, the Mets have completed two-thirds of their schedule and they are a .500 ballclub.

Tonight's loss to the Braves was disgraceful. For a team who still has visions of possibly making a run at the division, they played themselves out of the discussion.

Precious CarGo: Is Rockies' Carlos Gonzalez's Amazing Season for Real?

Carlos Gonzalez is making Rockies' fans forget all about Matt Holliday.

Ever since breaking out in last year's playoffs, Gonzalez has been on an absolute tear.

The young outfielder is in the top ten in all National League offensive categories, and is second in Power-Speed, a statistic invented by Bill James that measures the harmonic mean between a player's home runs and stolen bases.

And at the ripe age of 24, he's one of baseball's budding young stars.

But forgive me if I'm skeptical of his amazing stats.

Ubaldo Jimenez Gets 17th, Colorado Rockies' Road Trip Is a Make or Break

As much as it could be on Aug. 4, Wednesday afternoon's game against the Giants was a must-win for the Rockies.

The good news for the Rockies was that they had their ace Ubaldo Jimenez on the mound. Jimenez pitched seven innings of one-run baseball in route to his 17th win as the Rockies rolled over the Giants 6-1 at Coors Field.

The win ties Jimenez with Jeff Francis, Kevin Ritz, and Pedro Astacio for most wins in a season for Colorado.

Baltimore Orioles Top Prospects: Who's Hot and Who's Not, August 4th

The top half of this week's "who's hot and who's not" has a rather familiar feel to it, with five of the first seven players occupying spots in my preseason Top 30 rankings, including an old familiar face who hasn't seen this much attention in a few years.

The bottom half is a who's-who of new faces, including a few recent draftees, and a ton of late-round fliers, including 30th, 34th, and 43rd round picks, in addition to a few undrafted players.

Get used to these names, because a lot of them will be occupying spots on my postseason All-Organization team, with maybe one of them receiving top

Texas Rangers: Nolan Ryan, Mark Cuban Bidding to Become New Owners

This is the day a lot of people have been waiting for since the decision came down that the Texas Rangers would go up for auction. At this moment it's a two team race, so to speak, as to who will be the new owners of the Texas Rangers. The two teams are groups headed by Attorney Chuck Greenberg and Hall of Fame pitcher Nolan Ryan up against Houston businessman Jim Crane and Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban .

Fantasy Baseball & Sabermterics: How To Use BABIP To Win Your League

In fantasy baseball, we use statistics all day, everyday. But a surprisingly high number of managers tend to ignore some fundamental statistics generated by the Society for Baseball Research. Get to know a new Sabermetric each week in this new series. This week we're looking at BABIP.

On Zambrano Starting Again, Being Positive And Meaningless Cubs Call-Ups

In case you haven't heard the news, brace yourself, Cubs fans. Carlos Zambrano is a starter again. He is scheduled to start on Monday.

"Sometimes you don't know what you have until you lose it," Zambrano said of starting again. "I don't want to lose this opportunity. I just want to take advantage [of it] be prepared and be ready for the last two months."

Listen Carlos, we'd love for you to pitch well so we can ship you out of town after the season.

Closing 101: How Top MLB Firemen Do It

Coming into a MLB game in the ninth inning, listening to your favorite rock or rap song surely will get you a bit nervous/pumped up/downright scared.

In my case, that song happens to be "Wonderwall" by Oasis. Yes, it may seem like a sissy song to walk out to, but read the lyrics , especially the refrain, and you will understand.
