Oakland A's Hand Kurt Suzuki a New Contract

In a move that has been anticipated for a while, the Oakland A’s have locked up catcher Kurt Suzuki for the foreseeable future.

The A’s and Suzuki agreed to a four-year, $16.25 million contract on Friday. There is a vesting option for a fifth year based on games played. Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle has the breakdown of the contract:

Colorado Rockies Need to Cook Up a Roster Move

The Colorado Rockies continued their crash-and-burn tour on Friday night.

This time, the road took them to Philadelphia, home to the two-time defending National League champions and their newly acquired ace, Roy Halladay.

The Rockies were shut out 6-0 on Friday night, which wasn't a surprise based on the pitching matchup.

No team has ever won a baseball game when they scored zero runs. It has never happened and it never will happen.

MLB Trade Rumors: Jose Guillen To Giants? Don't Do It, Brian Sabean!

Buster Olney passes on a rumor that the Giants had scouts eyeing the Royals’ Jose Guillen. Sigh!

One of the definitions of an idiot is someone who cannot learn from his mistakes.  Guillen isn’t worth anything more than a single B-grade prospect, if that, but he’s exactly the type of overrated psuedo-power hitter Giants GM Brian Sabean has overrated so many times in the past.

Kansas City Royals Get Bad Break: David DeJesus Out for the Year

It’s really unbelievable. The Kansas City Royals just can’t catch a break. Even when one of their best trade chips is having his best season, something goes wrong.

The Royals got some bad news on Friday when they learned that outfielder David DeJesus will be out for the year.

DeJesus will undergo season-ending surgery on Monday to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb.

DeJesus hurt the thumb when he crashed into the wall at Yankee Stadium on Thursday night.

Mets Lineup for Game 2 against Dodgers

1. Jose Reyes, SS
2. Luis Castillo, 2B
3. Angel Pagan, RF
4. David Wright, 3B
5. Carlos Beltran, CF
6. Ike Davis, 1B
7. Jason Bay, LF
8. Henry Blanco, C
9. Johan Santana, LHP

This is the Mets' best chance to turn this slump around. Johan Santana is 2-0 with a 0.58 ERA in his last four starts.

This is a good lineup no matter what anybody says, and they should be able to score enough runs to win every time Santana starts.

Carl Pavano's Amazing Season Continues

I think of all the words that New York Yankee fans could use to describe Carl Pavano, workhorse would not be one of them.

While Pavano clearly wasn’t a workhorse in New York, he has been one in Minnesota, and in 2010, he has become one of the best pitchers in the American League.

Pavano tossed his second complete game in a row last night as he and the Minnesota Twins blanked the Baltimore Orioles 5-0. Pavano allowed just five hits, walked one, and whiffed four in the 102-pitch effort.

Only Alex: The Glamourus Path To 600

There is that third basemen for the New York Yankees who has a strange way of doing things.

Alex Rodriguez is sitting at 599 home runs on his career.

MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox' Lowell Bound For Detroit?

The Detroit Tigers are looking to acquire Boston backup third baseman Mike Lowell to temporarily replace the injured Brandon Inge, according to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.

Inge had been hitting .263 with a .755 OPS and was wielding a decent glove before landing on the disabled list for six weeks with a broken hand.

While Lowell is still owed a little less than $5 million this year and has spent most of the season languishing on the DL, he represents one of the most affordable short-term fixes at the hot corner currently on the market.

Mets Pre Game Notes July 23, 2010

LOS ANGELES-- The New York Mets are in Los Angeles to face the Dodgers in game two of their series, trying to fine some offense.

New York will have Johan Santana on the mound facing Vincente Padilla. Padilla has beat the Mets more than any other team in his career (10), and is having a solid season for Joe Torre's club.

Closer Report (July 22nd)

There isn’t much to complain about this week when it comes to closers performances over the last week. With only six blown saves for the entire MLB over the last seven days, its nitpicking time. This week it was very difficult to separate an A from a D, let alone a B. If your closer gave up more than one hit look down the list. If he gave up a run, ha, look waaay down the list.
