Kelly Johnson: Ranking the Four Cycles in Arizona Diamondbacks History

Silver linings are hard to find in the Arizona desert this summer.

First-year Diamondback Kelly Johnson provided an obvious one Friday night, when he hit for the fourth cycle in Arizona history.

Unfortunately, like most nights at Chase Field this season, his headlining efforts weren't enough for a Diamondbacks win.

So, in an effort to help alleviate the pain this team has caused in 2010, why not relive the other three Snakes' cycles?

"Hip, Hip, Jorge!" Congrats To Jorge Posada On His 1,000th Career RBI

On a night when it rained on Alex Rodriuez's 600th home run quest, Jorge Posada's milestone RBI stole the spotlight.

After a base clearing three run double by Robinson Cano in the top of the first inning,  Posada followed with an RBI double of his own, and thus reached 1,000 RBI's in his career.

With his milestone RBI tonight, Posada is now the 12th Yankee to do so, joining fellow catchers Yogi Berra and Bill Dickey, as well as long time teammate Derek Jeter.

But it's not just Yankee legends that he's joining.

MLB Trade Rumors: Dan Haren Would Fit Nicely as a Yankee

If the New York Yankees were to land Arizona's Dan Haren, they would be getting a top pitcher to add to their already impressive group of starters.

The Diamondbacks' hurler is currently having a difficult 2010 posting a 7-8 record with an ERA 4.60.  Haren though is only a year removed from a fantastic season where he went 14-10 with an ERA of 3.14, and 223 strikeouts.

Mike Pelfrey Hopes to Turn Season Around and Start a Mets Win Streak

LOS ANGELES: Mike Pelfrey has gone through a rough stretch over his last four starts like none other in over 50 years.

Over his last 14.2 innings pitched, Pelfrey has allowed 51 baserunners. That's almost 3.5 baserunners allowed per inning, a rate that hasn't been seen since 1951.

Yes, it's been that bad for the pitcher whom some people considered the staff's ace in April and May.

His last start in Arizona, was the worst of his career, only lasting 1.1 innings. He gave up six runs on seven hits, and threw 51 pitches in the first inning.

Watch Out for Los Angeles Dodgers' Kenley Jansen

The Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen is a good example of why MLB teams like guys with tools.

Jansen is a big (6’6″ and 220 pound) 22-year-old right-hander from Curacao (Andruw Jones’ birthplace) who just got called up to take Justin Miller’s place on the Dodgers’ major league roster.

Jansen started his professional career as a catcher, but after more than 1,000 plate appearances at or below the Class A+ level, Jansen proved he just can’t hit (.647 career minor league OPS).

Roy Oswalt Trade Talks at a Standstill

After a couple of days filled with reports and rumors of possible trades surrounding Astros ace pitcher Roy Oswalt, things seem to be at a standstill, at least from the St. Louis Cardinals’ perspective.

MLB: Are the Texas Rangers Built for Playoff Success?

Fresh off two straight one-run wins against their division rival Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, the Texas Rangers have boosted their lead to seven games in the AL West and sport a healthy 57-40 record in 2010.

While some fans have been surprised by the great play from the Rangers in the first 97 games this season, there were a lot of experts out there who predicted a division championship for Texas this year.

Raising the White Flag: Geren Again Proves His Legacy of Incompetence

Bob Geren's legacy as manager of the Oakland A's will always be his legendary incompetency. No manager in Major League history is as clueless at using their bullpen as Geren has been.

Tonight illustrates a perfect example of how Geren can destroy the confidence of a young pitcher. Henry Rodriguez came into the ballgame to face Paul Konerko in the top half of the eighth inning, and Rodriguez did his job keeping the game close at 3-1.

Oakland Athletics Continue to Amaze Those Few Eyes That are Watching

Several times in 2010, I've used this space to lament the unfortunate trajectory on which the Oakland Athletics' season seems to routinely find itself. If it's not injuries derailing an otherwise smoothly steaming train, then it's...well....

No, it's pretty much been injuries every time, all the time.
