What were you expecting, a no-hitter?

Calm down Red Sox Nation.
So John Smoltz didn't pitch a no-hitter after not pitching in almost a year.
He wasn't lined up for his first win of the season either, however after his first inning blunder of allowing four runs, Smoltz calmed down and pitched back-to-back 1-2-3 innings in the fourth and fifth. He showed he did have control at the end against the Washington Nationals.
Smoltz threw 92 pitches, gave up seven hits, two for extra bases, five runs, a walk, and five strikeouts. He also struck out the side in the fifth.

Yankees Response to Girardi's Ejection Speaks to Team's Disgust With Him

Much credit has been given to Yankees Manager Joe Girardi for his “inspiring and motivating” rant and subsequent ejection on Wednesday night.

Girardi was on a mission to not only light a fire under his team, but to also make opposing manager and “ejection extraordinaire” Bobby Cox proud of his tirade.

John Smoltz Could Be the Key Factor for the Red Sox in October

John Smoltz, a living pitching legend, is finally making his debut with the Boston Red Sox tomorrow night as they go for the "sweepage" over the Washington Nationals.

AL East Breakdown: Red Sox Are Strong Contenders

As the Major League Baseball season is creeping towards the halfway point, division standings are becoming more important by the day.

Yanks Going Online; Could the O's Be Far behind?

Big news on the business side of the game today as Major League Baseball announced that two teams, the Yankees and a second unnamed franchise rumored to be the Red Sox, will deliver live games online within their home broadcast territories starting in July.

Red Sox Midseason Report: It's All in the Numbers

We're at the half-way point of the 2009 Major League Baseball season, and with all the statistics and numbers that baseball keeps, it's not too hard to point out how the Sox are at where they are...on top of the American Leauge!

This is my Red Sox mid-season report, and as the title says... it's all in the numbers!

Joey Votto And Grady Sizemore Activated From DL…

Just a quick fantasy update here. Two of my favorite players in baseball have been activated for their team’s games tonight.

The Cincinnati Reds have activated 1B Joey Votto for tonight’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Votto was hitting .357 with eight HR’s and 33 RBI when he went to the DL. If he hadn’t gone to the DL, he probably would have been an All-Star this year.

Votto is Canadian, so this couldn’t have come at a better time since the Reds are playing the Blue Jays in Toronto.

CC Sabathia Leaves Yankees Game with Injury

New York Yankees’ ace CC Sabathia left today’s game against the Florida Marlins with one out in the second inning because of an apparent injury. I say “apparent” because even watching the game, I am not sure exactly what was wrong with the big lefty.

After his last warm up pitch, Joe Girardi came to the mound with the Yankees’ trainer to check on CC. The YES Network showed a replay of that pitch, and nothing looked unusual.

The Hot 8: Week 12

First and foremost, Happy Father's Day to all the Dad's out there! Yeah, I know that it feels like just another day to us, but soak it in while you can. Take some time today or if you're like me and stuck working (you call this work?), set aside some time during the week to spend quality time with the kids. Go ahead and take them to a ballgame, or the race track or to a nearby field or park to play. It's OK to do something you want to do today but include them and let them see why you love going to these places so much and how much fun it can be.
