Peter Gammons To Leave ESPN Following Winter Meetings

Peter Gammons, 64, has reportedly released a statement that says he will be moving on from ESPN at the conclusion of the 2009 MLB Winter Meetings later this week to pursue new endeavors.

Gammons, who has been with ESPN since 1989, said that the decision to leave was "conflicted."

Blockbuster Deal Sends Granderson To Yanks, Jackson to D'Backs

While some sources reported it as a rumor earlier, Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated has confirmed via his Twitter that the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks, and Detroit Tigers have agreed on a deal that will send OF Curtis Granderson to the Bronx and P Edwin Jackson to the desert. The details are as followed:

Detroit Tigers Sign Adam Everett: 2010 Shortstop Position Is Filled

Shortstop Adam Everett was signed Monday to a one-year contract for the 2010 season by the Detroit Tigers, who were able to cross an item off their shopping list.

The signing of Everett does not come as much of a surprise for a franchise that is short of cash but flush with needs. The financial reality of the Tigers does not allow them much leeway in offseason spending.

Report: New York Mets Acquire Edwin Jackson From Detroit Tigers

Reports on Monday afternoon are that the New York Mets have traded for Detroit Tigers starter Edwin Jackson.

Jackson emerged as a solid starter for Detroit after being dealt to the Tigers for Matt Joyce last winter. The 26-year-old righty was 13-6 with a 3.62 ERA in 33 starts. He had one complete game last year, and struck out 161 in 215 innings pitched. Opposing batters only managed a .246 average against Jackson in 2009.

Yankees Start Trimming the Fat: Brian Bruney Traded to Nationals

The Yankees, who are reportedly on a quest to reduce payroll this offseason, have traded right-handed reliever Brian Bruney to the Washington Nationals for a player to be named later.

Bruney, who made $1.25 million this year, was due for salary arbitration and could've made around $2 million after putting up what appeared to be a good season.

The 27-year-old's 5-0 record and 3.92 ERA look nice on paper, but Yankees fans know how much Bruney struggled at times this year following his return from injury.

Jose Valverde May Accept Arbitration with the Houston Astros (Ruh-Roh!)

News today from Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal states that Jose Valverde is leaning towards accepting arbitration from the Astros.

This news follows on the heels of reports that Rafael Soriano is also likely to accept arbitration from the Atlanta Braves

SHOCKING NEWS: Andy Pettitte Will Be Back with the NY Yankees in 2010

To report that Andy Pettitte will be back on the mound for the New York Yankees in 2010 is no more surprising than saying they will play their home games in the beautiful, new mini-park known as Yankee Stadium. Yet, ESPN reported it today.

Come To Think Of It: Cubs To Sign Mike Cameron As Soon As Bradley Deal Is Done

According to Will Carroll from Baseball Prospectus, the Cubs will sign free agent Mike Cameron to play center field as soon as Milton Bradley is moved. Carroll tweets that the Bradley deal has been "imminent for 72 hours."

Cameron will turn 37 in January but is still an above average defender, at least according to a UZR/150 of 10.3, despite a weak arm. He should be a huge improvement over Kosuke Fukudome, who can move back to right field.

Boston Red Sox Will Not Open 2010 Season in Australia

There was a claim earlier that the Boston Red Sox would be opening up the 2010 season in Sydney, Australia.
