Though I confess that I already knew, but was sworn to secrecy, I'm excited to officially announce the signing of right-hander Jason Grilli to a minor league deal with the Cleveland Indians with a big-league invitation to spring training.

Grilli will be given the opportunity to compete for a spot in the Indian's bullpen. If he makes the big league club, he'll earn $800,000 for the season.

Fox Sports is reporting that Angel Pagan is drawing interest from "several" teams. One of the reported teams is the Kansas City Royals, who would like to trade Jose Guillen.

Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi over at FoxSports.com are reporting that numerous teams have been discussing Angel Pagan to be their potential starting center fielder.

MLB rumors" target="_blank">Jerry Crasnick reports for ESPN that the Houston Astros are reportedly kicking the tires on Brett Myers, which makes some sense.  Myers should be a cheap alternative in 2010 with a pretty strong upside, and the ability to pitch in the rotation or out of the pen.  I guess the real question is whether or not Myers is healthy enough to stand up to the rigors of a full season?

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Cleveland Indians traded C Kelly Shoppach to the Tampa Bay Rays for a player to be named later or cash.

Shoppach, 29, was a former top prospect and International League All-Star with the Boston Red Sox organization. Throughout his Major League career, almost entirely with Cleveland, he's hit .241 with a .776 OPS. He is arbitration eligible this offseason, and the Rays are expected to give him a raise from his $1.95 million he made in '09.

Mandy Housenick of The Morning Call is reporting that Northampton graduate Bran Schneider has signed a two-year free agent contract with the Phillies after passing a physical on Tuesday.

Schneider, who grew up a Phillies fan, hit .218/.292/.335 with three home runs and 24 RBI in 170 at-bats with the New York Mets last season while being slowed down by back, calf and knee injuries.

The Red Sox may no longer need a shortstop.
