With the 2013 World Series underway, it will soon be time to look towards the offseason. The winter shopping season will soon be under way. There will be free agents signing with new teams; there will be trades made as clubs look to better themselves for the upcoming season.

The New York Mets will reportedly have some money to spend in free agency this winter, with some hefty contracts coming off the books. But general manager Sandy Alderson has gone on record by saying he will spend wisely and not just for the sake of signing a big-name, big-money player.

How much do you know about Bobby Richardson?

Not much, I'm guessing. Richardson had a couple of seasons in which he hit .300, but he ultimately retired with a pedestrian .266 average and a pedestrian .634 OPS. A modern baseball fan doesn't think of him as one of the titans of the game.

For the first time in 95 years, the Boston Red Sox can clinch a World Series title at home in Fenway Park, needing only a victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 on Wednesday. 

Behind the stellar pitching of Jon Lester, dazzling hitting of David Ortiz and dominance of closer Koji Uehara, the Red Sox are bringing a 3-2 series lead back home after defeating Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright in Game 5. 

Shin-Soo Choo has quietly developed into one of the most well-rounded outfielders in baseball. He isn't a big name because he's spent his entire career with small-market teams, but he'll be among the likely free agents taking center stage this winter.

While the World Series is still going on, it's not too early to begin thinking about the Hot Stove League, which is set to get underway next week.

Despite a relative lack of superstar talent available via free agency, this year's offseason won't lack for big names on the rumor mill, as the futures of players like David Price, Max Scherzer, Giancarlo Stanton and others will be hotly debated.
