The Oakland Athletics announced a call-up for relief pitcher Pat Venditte, a rare switch-pitcher capable of effectively using either arm to throw, to the big leagues Friday.

Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Howie Kendrick is dealing with a knee injury. Although doctors didn't find any structural damage, a timetable for his return to the lineup is unclear.

Joey Gallo's first stop in the majors is only supposed to be for a cup of coffee: Adequately replace Adrian Beltre for a few weeks, get in some MLB cuts and go back down to the minors an improved player.

If his debut is any indication, Gallo has no interest in following that plan.

The Cincinnati Reds received a major blow on Tuesday night, as outfielder Marlon Byrd suffered a fractured wrist in the team's 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Before Tuesday, the Texas Rangers knew they had an elite power-hitting prospect in 21-year-old third baseman Joey Gallo. What they didn't know is how he looked in real, live major-league action.

Well, now they do. And they have every reason to be excited.

Very, very, very excited.

As a kid, few things can rival the thrill of a catching a baseball at a live game.

That held true for this young fella in the first row as the Oakland Athletics visited the Detroit Tigers Tuesday night…well, at first.

With the return of Dillon Gee, the New York Mets are to institute a six-man pitching rotation in their pursuit of top spot in the National League East. 

And it's not going anywhere, according to ESPN's Adam Rubin.

Washington Nationals star slugger Bryce Harper gave the world another reminder of what a total bro he is when a fan tossed her phone to him in the outfield Tuesday night.

Harper definitely made that fan’s night, but he’ll now have to deal with a hailstorm of fans' phones raining down on him from the seats.

On Tuesday night, the Texas Rangers (26-25) will host the Chicago White Sox (23-26) in the first game of a three-game series at Globe Life Park. 

For the Rangers, Colby Lewis will be taking the mound to start. Lewis comes into the game with a 4-3 record and 4.70 ERA. He will look to rebound from his last start, in which he gave up 10 runs in only 2.2 innings to the Cleveland Indians. 

Chicago will be sending out Jeff Samardzija to start tonight's game as the veteran right-hander looks to improve his 4-2 record and avoid his first loss since April 29.  

Josh Hamilton has settled back in with the Texas Rangers, but the five-time All-Star is currently limited by a hamstring injury.
