New York Yankees Report Card: Grading the Offense Through First Third of Season

"School's out for the summer." Not so fast, Alice Cooper—the Yankees are just getting their first report card of the year.

This list will be how I have graded the Yankee hitters to this point in the season, strictly based on their performance at the plate.

While some Yankees have hit some bombs, others have bombed their first test, and their grades will reflect that.

Here they are: the Yankee Class of 2010.

Is the 2010 New York Yankees Infield Better Than the Big Red Machine?

While the Big Red Machine of the 1970s might have been extremely good, it has nothing on the 2010 Yankees.

The Bronx Bombers have put together the best hitting infield of all time, and have done so in an un-Yankees manner. Although the Yankees have earned a reputation for buying their talent, the majority of this currently assembled infield is home grown talent.

New York Yankees Activate Jorge Posada From DL

Good news for fantasy owners like me who were suffering at the catcher position while they had Jorge Posada on the DL. The New York Yankees activated the 38-year-old catcher prior to last night’s tilt against the Baltimore Orioles.

Posada DH’d last night, which might be a good thing for his fantasy owners. Francisco Cervelli is clearly a better defensive catcher than Posada at this point of his career. Posada at DH the majority of the time will preserve his bat and health for the rest of the season.

Why Jorge Posada's Career Will Never Be The Same Again

Yesterday, I wrote about how the New York Yankees should send IF/OF Kevin Russo down to the minors when catcher Jorge Posada was ready to be activated off the disabled list.

The Derek Jeter-Lou Gehrig Comparison

Since the Jeet man is chasing Gehrig's sacred numbers I thought I would compare the two...something Jeter himself would never admit doing.

They both had the basic same legnth careers, G-man 16 years and Jeet-man 15. Gehrig had three seasons of 15 or fewer games, two in the beginning and one at the end. Jeter had one season where he played 15 games...his first. Jeter will play for at least two more years.

Lou Gehrig: 2,164 games/8,001 AB/ 1888 runs/2,721 hits/ 534 doubles/163 triples/493 HR/1,995 RBI/1,508 walks/790 strikeouts/.340 AVG./.447 OBP

New Stadiums In New York Disappoint

New York baseball teams opened up their new palaces last year. Citi Field and the new Yankee Stadium were the new sports buildings in town.

After watching games at both stadiums, let's just say both stadiums left a lot to be desired.

They had zero charm.

There was nothing interesting about either ballpark.

The Run-down Old Ballparks That Allowed Smoking

In 2010, Major League Baseball welcomed Target Field in Minnesota to the family of new, exciting ballparks in the leagues portfolio of stadiums. Personally, I miss the history, and simplicity of the stadiums of the past. I have included ten historical ballparks that are missed dearly that any true fan would love to see.

The New York Yankees Could Get Kanekoa Texeira Back From the Seattle Mariners

According to Larry Stone of the Seattle Times , the Mariners have designated former Yankees reliever Kanekoa Texeira for assignment. They now have 10 days to trade Texeira or let somebody claim him off of waivers.

Here is what Stone had to say of the Texeira move:

Javier Vazquez Could Be Pitching to Save His Yankees Career Tonight

Tonight, the New York Yankees will send their beleaguered starter Javy Vazquez to the mound against the hapless Baltimore Orioles.

This is a game the Yankees should win easily, considering the Orioles have been the bottom feeders of the AL East for the past decade and are the owners of baseball's worst record.

But for Javier Vazquez, this is not only a game he should pitch well in—it's also a must win.
